Houllier is fully aware that we need a player who can spot a pass to release the strikers. He thinks Adam is that player. Bannan has that ability but his physical presence is not there. I think Petrov/Delph will do a good job if we do not get Adam ......

I think GH is thinking, Petrov = on his last legs, NRC = not enough quality in the distribution dept., Bannan = too small and physically challenged to be prominent on a regular basis and as such, Makoun will replace NRC but we still need to replace Petrov.

Adam would seemingly be a good bet for that role, but he will take a bit of levering away with his Manager talking like he's fucking Zidane reincarnated (in a football sense!).

Wonder if Carrick might come onto the radar in the summer if we miss out on Adam. Also wonder if the kid we wanted from Barcelona B that got injured may have been earmarked to that role, or indeed Forfana before the medical fiasco, and still wonder if we may re visit that one. Sunderland used Andy Reid in the role which gave Bent a lot of balls through the middle as for all the things that can be said of him, he can pass a bloody good ball. We need a more mobile and full on player than Reid, but to play to the strengths of Bent we certainly need a better ball player than we have in there.

He was talking about Bannans height when he joined, saying Iniesta, Messi are some of the smallest players around. But if you have the desire and ability you can make a difference. Delph has got the physical and special pass to do the job ........

I am/was. If he were five years younger there aren't many midfielders in the league I'd swap him for.

But at times this season he is clearly running on empty. I still think he'll be very useful to have to bring on to close out games, but his time as a first choice in our midfield should be coming to an end now.

Would love it if we had a look at Etienne Capoue from Toulouse. 6'2" built like a wall, fast as fuck and has a great eye for a pass, he's only 22 and would be much better value than Adam IMO. He and Makoun sitting with Ashley, Marc and Stew in front would make our midfield strong, fast and creative!

If he's great and in the sub £8million bracket then yes. Otherwise I'd prefer us to give Bannan and Delph chances. Same goes for Adam.

Lost cause I fear. Such a pity because if he had his head screwed on he could be superb for us. His ability to play a killer ball to the strikers is what we are lacking at the moment.

Does seem we won't get Adam now, so I wouldn't be suprised to see more of Downing in the middle.

Be interesting to see if Houllier has a back up plan for Adam or if we'll have to wait till the Summer.
