Purely speculating then...

So that is Bouma, Harewood, Sidwell, Shorey, Carew, Salifou, Milner - about 260k a week maybe off the wage bill? With Ireland, Beye, Osborne, Reo Coker and Freidel likely to be by the end of the summer too. Another 200k - 450k a week ish overall -

Ins - Makoun maybe 40k and Bent 70k ish so 110k back on. Get 3-4 more in the time between now and the end of the summer, even on 50k a week we will have cut the wage bil by 4 million a year at least players wise.

According to the Swiss Ramble Villa were between £10m to £17m in excess of Deloite's recommended turnover v wages ratio.  Scarily this was before we signed Collins, Dunne and Warnock.

So despite the good work done in this window we still gave a lot if trimming to do before we'd be considered sustainable, unless we make it policy to sell our best players for a big profit each season (ie increase turnover).

That is also a hell of a lot of players to replace, and if we want a quality squad, we are unlikely to bring many in on less wages.  The good news is that much of the squad could be filled with out rising stars, who for the time being will be on peanuts in comparison.

Houllier likes to rotate the squad, he doesn't have a favourite 11 like our dear departed, so we will need a decent squad if we want to compete.

He has mostly impressed whenever I have seen him play.  Great from a dead ball too.  I would take him.

He's playing well at the moment because his contract is up, he's after a move so he's putting a shift in. Largely he is shit, no blues fan I know will be sad too see him go.

I think what we have is better

Larrson has got to be a big "no no". Houllier has brought quality in. And Larrson and Samba do not fall into that bracket. Need to get rid of Warnock and bring in a young pacy left back. That would bring Clarke back into play and also a Stephen Ireland type player in but without having psychiatric problems !!!!!!

Interesting odds by ssn skybet representive - villa 9/2 to go down but only 5/2 to finish above Sunderland , even though they have a 12 point lead- watch out brucie we are coming to get you and finish above you!

Adam deal seems to be at a standstill , I have heard little on a left back and can't see warnock going unless we have a left back signed.

I'm happy with our business. The only thing that concerns me is left back and even then I can tolerate Clark or Luke Young (When is he fit again?) covering for the rest of the season. Our two main weeknesses were upfront and defensive midfield and with Dazza and Jean in we have improved these areas.

Adam and Samba are for me potential wastes of money. We are fine for centre halves and to an extent central midfielders. With Cuellar, Collins, Dunne and Clark available Samba is for me no improvement. Adam has the potential to be the new Steve Sidwell and would only prove an obstacle to Bannan, Gary Gardner and Delph who have the potential to be very good players for free. We also have players like Petrov, Reo Coker, Hogg and Herd who can help out.

What is most important now is to clear out some of the shite. We've got rid of Sidwell and Carew with hopefully Warnock and Ireland to follow. Add Davies to that and all in all we've done good business.

In the summer sales we must look for a left back (???), a goalie (Ciaran Westwood?) and potentially a midfielder. Maybe a creative striker too? It is then we must look to remove a few more players such as NRC, Petrov, Heskey and possibly a Centre half. Players who aren't really ballast and have given us good times but have come to the end of their spell. If we lose guys like Young or Downing we should buy replacements.

I wouldn't be too displeased if we promoted some of the youth players further.

Another £15k a week saved. He'll be MON's first signing wherever he turns up.

Westwood will be in a free in the summer as long as nobody snaps him up in the next few days on the cheap- I'd sign him now as cover for friedal- would be a great £1.5m business, if friedal did get injured I would have little confidence in guzan or Marshall.

We need someone like Adam because Ireland isn't doing the job he should be doing

Yes we have Reo Coker, Petrov, Delph and Makoun but they're all similar types of players - defensive minded.

Someone like Adam will give us creativity from the middle, something we've been gagging for.

I'm suprised Blues haven't tried harder to keep Larrsen, he's only on 8grand a week as its the same contract as what he was on when he first joined, think he wants to be in the same pay scale as the other first teamers but they're not giving it him.

Delph is not simply defensive and neither is Makoun. They can both spray passes around and get forward. As can Bannan.
Adam is very welcome but, at full strength, we have players who can be creative in the middle.
