Pienaar confimed he is off to Spurs, they won't want Young now so next bit of business after wraping up Bent deal should be new contract.

If he stays and we get silly offer for Downing then let him go! Miss his crunching tackles but never mind!

And Redknapp was on TV 2 days ago confirming that Pienaar would most likely be joining Chelsea.

Well fancy that.

Whats the betting that Pienaar signing for Spuds gets more airtime then our (hopefully confirmed soon) signing of an 18m-24m England Striker ??

I just looked up that Spacic fella who we are apparently interested, as I part of my research I see that he is going out with Miss Croatia and stumbled across this picture of her.

Has anyone else wondered why MON & RL did not swoop for Bent when he was unhappy at Spurs and save Villa £14 million?  I started asking at that time and have never stopped since. Those seated near me in the Trinity are bored of hearing it.

He ummed and arred until Bent went elsewhere.

In fairness, it's somewhat arrogant to assume that even had we a definite, concrete interest in him back in 2009 and had matched Sunderland's bid he'd have still come here.

Yes, we're probably a more attractive club than them. But a big part of the reason why he wanted to move was he wanted guaranteed first team football to get back in the England reckoning. Think I even read a quote from him soon after signing there, along the lines of "Villa are a good club, but they already have two England internationals up front and John Carew."

It was a good career move for him to go there at the time.

Ye he did say that. Imagine if MON had the bottle to have got him then. Carew was doing well and add 15-20 goals to that and who knows where we could of finished .....

I'm another who does not see the point in signing Samba when we have three fine centre halves at the club already.

He's no improvement on Dunney, Jimmy and Carlos.

He seems the sort who needs the confidence of his manager fully behind him though. If he had come here, he'd have had a job at the time trying to oust MON's favourites from the starting XI. Maybe he would have, but it would have been a gamble for him. And more time on the bench at that stage of his career is not what he needed.

Now the thing has moved on. JC is on the wane, Gabby probably hasn't pushed on as much as we'd have hoped and when you spend £18 rising to £24 million on a guy one thing you can pretty guarantee is that he'll be a first team regular.
