He will bring Petrov in Chris, and Downing, but I think he will stick Pires in the Young role behind the forward.

Sorry Ozz, had forgotten about Young being out. I suppose that stands a chance but I really hope he doesn't.
So do I.
Would be like 10 v 11

Klose and van bommel are box office names and would give the club a huge lift and boost gates too but I can't really see them coming here- I wish they would though!
Van Bommell 33 years old would want big wages, no not for me we need to get the average age down Freidel, Heskey, Petrov, Pirez !!!

if GH managed to get both Benzema and Klonse for Villa new look attack could this partnership work for us with young, downing, albrighton supplying and makicon as midfield general.

I'd rather Bannan started than Pires.

klose on a short term deal to the end of the season would suit both parties imo. he'd get the games and be able to negotiate with us or someone else in the summer, rather like Sidwell's deal

Villa signing Klose? I think deep down we all know we couldn't be further.

I think GH is having a real go at bringing someone in and depending on their circumstances and finances one of them could arrive albeit on loan.

Not a point directed at you particularly, Greg, but but what does everyone think of Gezza's approach of talking about transfers as opposed to MON's tight lipped stance?

As you say he's having a real go, but we're only saying that as we know what's going on, such as him admitting the interest in Bridge.  Martin wouldn't have done that, so we'd be blaming him for still sitting on his arse by mid January even if he had bid.  He's not exactly Harry Redknapp, but Gezza does seem to not play things as close to his chest.  On the plus side that means we know what's going on and that he's working, but on the negative side it means we also know when we miss out on someone.

What do we prefer?

Sunday  - 12:30pm

Downing to makoun, makoun to benzema
benzema - through the legs of johnson
benzema again
BENZEMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Meanwhile on terra firma

Sunday 12:03pm
Downing to Petrov, square ball to Reo Coker
who goes back to Dunne
Dunne launches a long ball forward and out for a throw

Problem with MON was not just the silence or the wait , but the sheer predictability of who would arrive. If he was still here, you're right they'd be no indications but we'd all know he'd be camped outside Robbie Keane's house

Good point, though I'd still bring Van Bommel in and lose Friedel, Heskey and Pires in the summer.

As for ages... let's remember Van Bommel is 33 and Klose 32, which is very different to Friedel being 40 and Pires 37. Petrov's 31, isn't he? So hardly in the same bracket as dear old Brad.

Didn't Houllier say a week or so ago that he hoped Carew would be fit for the Blues game and that he would bring him back?

I never thought he was as predictable as some did.  I once asked someone if it was so obvious then tell us our next signing, to which I got some vague collection of clubs we'd be shopping from.  For instance, I didn't see anyone predicting Keane until the papers first broke the story.  Warnock and Cuellar were pretty much out of the blue, for example.  His pattern of signings from Britain, and preferably the PL, was predictable, but exactly who he had his eye on was less so given his and the clubs refusal to comment and play the media game.

As it goes, I prefer Gezza's way of admitting interest without trying to do deals in the press.  Maybe that's just as it's a refreshing chage from the last 4 years, but I feel less frustration waiting for the signings.

The difference I think is with MON we weren't in the running at the beginning with half the players we should of been. These things have a wonderful way of coming out in the press and that just wasn't happening under MON. Not because he played his cards close to his chest but because he wouldn't even pick up the phone and enquire in the first place.
It is nice that Houllier is out and about and we're hearing about potential signings because at the very least it's showing intention and an ambition. I can't see us signing benzema even if just on loan in a million years but at least we've picked up the phone and spoken to someone about him. Because at least now we're in with a chance. A very slight chance but one none the less.
