Kendrick made it clear that there is a striker target in front of the lad linked from Monaco too, but was not privy to who it is. Also thinks we will spend in excess of 10million this window which is good news if it comes to pass.

Although I'm curious by the striker targrt, I think a lot more than £10m is needed.  £10m would just about account for Makoun and Adam, so if we're getting a decent striker also you need to be talking £20m+ total.

Edit: Sorry - see it's already been discussed above!

Hypothetically.

7 million on Makoun
4 on Adam

Walker loan

Collins and Warnock out for Samba

Safari (left back linked) 1-2 million

Loan striker say Keane/ Owen/ Santa Cruz type stop gap till the summer.

Total spend around 13-14 million, with the side looking vastly different and a decent influx of players. A bit of creativity has been needed in the market for over 2 seasons, maybe we can get something workable that will push us up the league without spending a fortune and still cutting the wage bill back.

that sounds pretty realistic i reckon. you get the feeling GH is working hard to change things

How will people feel if we have a net spend of only £5/£6m this window?

I really can't see who the forward could be, guess someone from abroad but they're certainly keeping it quiet.

milan baros- swap with carew. 40 goals in 54 games is not to be sniffed at :)

Where is Baros nowadays, working in a Slade cover band?

scoring shedloads for galatasaray apparently
The quality of their league must've nosedived.

heh.. well you say that but he's managed 12 goals in 16 CL games.  Other thing is he's only 29!! Seems yonks since he played for us.  the odd thing is when i typed his name into google the first keyword it offered me was "Gay"

Not necessarily, buying from abroad will be a cheaper market. It'll only be £10m+ for someone from over here, a Carlton Cole type. How much did Chicharito and Rodagella cost for example? Or Yakubu when he went to Pompey? Chamakh was on a free but he wasn't being touted for much the Summer before.

Arggggggggghhhh!

I dont care what the net spend is as long as we get some good business done. It's football, not spendball.

Concerned. Unless we pull rabbits out of hats.

We seem to be linked with players we (for me) don't actually need too so we might have to spend a lot.

Ged/ GMac compensation package can only be around 3 million I reckon.
Bring in a few people who can coach how to defend and motivate football players, would be another 3 million. (Hopefully)

Only spending 6 million and saved from relegation. Happy days.

I'm sure Lerner knows the losses suffered if we go down- spend £20m now and we may have the makings of a decent team ready for next season, spend £5m and houllier has no chance to turn it around- Lerner must back him now!

That's quite a range there.

£6m is a decent net spend, whereas £5 is what I spend on crisps a week.

It depends on how we achieve that net spend. We could get a gigantic net spend by spending 15m on - random name - Aiden McGeady and nobody else, which i wouldnt be happy about.

Whereas we could theoretically ship out Davies and Ireland - two again chosen randomly - for a total of 12m or so, which puts us in the positive column before we start spending.

It's not so much about how much we spend, it's about backing the manager to get the players he wants. I'd rather he bought Adam for 3m and he turned out great than some other midfielder for 10m, and have him turn out shit.

Backing him is one thing, attracting quality players to a club in the relegation zone with a manager and coach who command little / no respect from players is another thing

Do you shop in the overpriced British market, Walkers Cheese & Onion for instance, or do you go for an cheaper but unproven foreign brand such as Aldi's Beerwurst & Saurkraut?

Are we all worrying about something that might not even happen? Would a journalist,no matter how good or close to a club, really know what we're gonna spend.

And as it's been said before, its more important how you spend iy,compared to how much you spend.
