We don't need to sell Young to generate finance.

Selling Young would just compound the sense that we are a selling club. This vicious cycle has to be stopped. When Randy took over I thought that we'd finally have the financial nous to resist people coming in for the Yorkes and Southgates of the club. We've since lost Barry and Milner. How can you progress when you keep having to sell your best players because somebody else can pay better wages. It stinks, it really stinks and I know Man City being bought was a game changer for Randy. Are we doomed always be contenders for 'best of the rest' unless we get bought by some absolutely filthy rich oil tycoon or something?

Is that twenty first football in a nutshell? Instead of every so often producing great teams that can challenge the title, the likes of Villa and Everton will just have to hope they get bought by somebody with enough money to actually buy them the title.

Sorry mods I know this is the wrong place for a rant.

The problem is if he's not going to sign a new contract he needs to be sold now, otherwise he becomes worthless. £20m now is more useful in the long term, rather than half a season out of a player who is becoming more ineffective as the weeks progress.

I would also take £20m for Young.

And then next season you can moan that we have sold our best player for three years running!!

exactly - its not a case of wanting to sell him but the fact he will leave for free if he doesnt want to sign a new contract!

And our reputation as a selling club is strengthened. And in a few years its Albrighton and Clark. Our stars will just always be picked up. If we could convince Ash to sign that contract we could build a really great team around him and the kids showing that we have real ambition as a club.

i don't think ManU particularly need Young this January. If push comes to shove sell him in the summer if we must but spend the money now if there's not enough currently in the pot. I can't see Young signing a contract in our present position anyway.

Something's wrong. I find myself agreeing with Sheldon's last post.

I wouldn't be too concerned if we lost Young in the summer. Don't think it would have the impact that losing Milner has...

Unless we get him playing to the best of his ability on the wing again!

why the fook do players do this

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/170943/Aston-Villa-Robert-Pires-in-a-rut-Villa-in-a-Houll/

He got rewarded with a start as well

Surely Pires of all the squad should be the one most pro-Houllier? Imagine what the more established players at Villa are thinking if Bobby is coming out with this.

Young's situation is another throwback to the MON days really. This policy of his of letting our best players get into the last years of their contract always put us on the backfoot when negotiating

This isn't true. The club were negotiating with Young in the summer, when he did have two years left. It was Young who put those talks on hold. This is not the club's fault.
