Everybody makes mistakes. They shouldn't be crucified for them if they've shown nothing but absolute committment to their cause and beyond. Which I believe Lerner has and will continue to do so.
I've seen fans question his loyalty all week, which I think is pretty ordinary to be honest. Dont you think he deserves better?

And now questioning transfer policy. Why not wait and see what we do in this window first, eh?
It's not like he hasn't put his hand in his pocket already.

Well he hasnt signed anyone for the past 17 months and we are almost a third of the way through Jan already

I don't think anyone can question Randy's loyalty, whatever other criticisms are going round. It is concerning we haven't spent any money on transfers in 18 months, but hopefully by the end of the window that will be sorted.
I think clearly they are when making comments of selling the assets and doing a runner and being worse than Doug etc. People are showing they have very short memories and that for all the great work Randy has done, some people will always find a way to have a good moan about you.

i dont think anyone can question his outlay in the 1st 4 years at the club , but we have been through a huge worldwide financial slump and others have invested hugely to pull away from us .

realistically i think the top 4 is further away now than when randy took over so people need to lessen expectations and maybe look to the top 8 in the next 3 or 4 years ., - it could well be that mon didnt like the fact that we cannot continue to invest heavily and maybe he walked as a result of it -we were very close to breaking that top 4 at one point , maybe a top striker away from it but now it seems a pipedream .

If we spend £15m to £20m we have brought in on milner and gardner in this window then i will be happy with that but if we spend less than £10m i will be very worried about survival.

I think its fair to say the Summer was a little bit unusual, wouldn't you agree? And it's more like a quarter of January gone with very little business done elsewhere. The world does not come and go at Aston Villa's call, alas.
If we dont do some substantial business this January, I'll be suprised.

Still you think you have grounds to criticise his spending? I dont.

The summer was unusual our manager walked out (for reasons no one on here knows), Our best player was sold when we didnt have a manager and we didnt appoint a manger until after the August window closed. As u say we will have to wait until the end of Jan to see what happens, the gross spend, etc

There are plenty of posts on here saying we are going down blah blah blah. As soon as anyone says I don't think so the old 'too good to go down' cliche is wheeled out and polished. I understand that teams who were expected to stay up have gone down, however any team that gets relegated over a season's results were blatantly not too good to go down.

I think it will be tough, no question about that but I think at the business end of the season we will be well clear. Just my opinion, feel happy to disagree but don't wheel out a bullshit cliche and tell me I am a victim of it

The problem for me is that others are winning games karl ,and we seem to be getting worse - i hope that decent signings this month will turn it around , and if we bring in 5 quality players including 2 full backs, defender , midfielder and striker we should be ok hopefully.

Spot on.
Know we are all a bit angry and concerned but think that is a rational and fair comment. Nice one ...

It's not a bullshit cliche - it's a fact. Just have a long hard look at the Premier League table and our upcoming fixture list

It is not a fact, Villafirst, it is your opinion nothing more. It is a perfectly valid position to think that we will not go down, it was only a week ago we played very well to get a point at Chelsea. I do have some doubts about Houllier but like Karl I don't think we wil go down and don't think there is anything to be gained by sacking him now.

I agree with Mazrim's post.

Randy would admit he has got a few things wrong but he has also been let down badly by a lot of people: MoN, Houllier, the players... He deserves some of the blame for the situation we are in but probably not as much as some others. He also can help us get out of it. It is only the 8th and there are 23 days of trading left. To complain about a lack of spending now is the very definition of premature. Indeed based on this I'd reckon some people on this thread would be finishing in their pants in the taxi home with a girl never mind back at her place.

If we haven't signed what we need by January 31st then I will get very concerned and start to worry deeply. Beyond the two linked loan forwards and Omar Cummings I'd want to see two, maybe three players come in... Say around £15-20million in spending.

2 new full backs will make a massive difference to the team. A top quality DM looks to be arriving and already we look to be better balanced. If the window was closed and we were stuck with what we had got I may be onboard with the doomsayers. With some of his own players in the dynamics in the dressing room change and players will then need to get onboard or get out. I only see us getting better.
