Letting Carlos go would be insane.

I do agree with you given this situation, though I am no great fan of his. I think he is hugely over-rated to be honest and more part of the problem than we realise...if that makes sense! Which I know it probably doesn't

I know what you are saying. Cuellar becomes part of the problem once that he moves to right back. His best position is central defence where he can just defend and not have to do too much with the ball - he's really good at that. As soon as he has to play some football his limitations become very obvious and his lack of skill can really inhibit the team's attacking options as we saw on many occasions last season.

He's comfortably our best defender. There are about eight players who we should be looking to replace before we start looking at Cuellar.

After witnessing last night's debacle it is obvious to me that we need to phase out petrov and NRC
With Downing/Ash/Albrighton (2of the3) we have good crossers/passers
but none of them are going to win headers/tackles

Petrov is an experienced head on the pitch but cannot realistically challenge for the ball in the air
NRC is supposed to be the defensive harrier but he is not big enough and lacks 1st touch

Barry Bannan is a great ball player and a competitive little scot-he is still learing and like all young players will be caught out by lack of experience from time to time-but he has great feet and good vision
If he were paired with a physically imposing experienced Anchor man we would at least have a chance to win the ball in midfield and challenge for the vital middle ground

Oh and we also need a striker

'He's comfortably our best defender' is what they call, I think, damning with faint praise.....though you are probably right!!!!

Rate Cuellar as a central defender but now Walker is signed and ready to play saturday, he has to either go back in the middle with Collins or Dunne. Think he will drop him .....

Cuellar was lucky a couple of times yesterday, especially early on when he should have cleared and Malbranque headed wide.

I think Carlos's contract is up end of next season so that presents a problem.

Madness to let him go to Wolves though.

Cuellar to Wolves? That's about as likely as Benzema to Villa. Selling our best defender to a club we're unfortunatley going to be competing with this season would be somewhat silly.

Keane is available and is a proven goalscorer. Available and proven goalscorers are very hard to come by and especially for 7million. If Villa just stand by and let him go to the scum I will be furious. I'd even swap Ash for Keane and Kranjcar. Ash will go in the summer anyway so use him to our advantage now. I'd be trying to bring in Keane, Makoun and Kranjcar. That should be enough to keep us up and then we can rebuild in the summer

   Still mannoyed from last night.

Collins in swap for Samba......yes please, Collins is a liability atm, mistake every game, and constantly gives the ball away.

Marseilles swap Ireland for striker.......yes please, desperately need a striker with movement.

Makoun......definately, or Sissiko, plus 1 other.

Cuellar.......not bothered tbh, a good defender with limited ability, can't pass, not quick, not a great loss unfortunately as i like him.

Oh and how about a cheeky request for Canales from RM, then we can dispense with this myth that AYoung can play in the whole.

First half last night, Carlos looked like a marauding winger, he was constantly popping up near their corner flag.

Second half, he looked well shaky.

He's a quality player, though, and selling him would be the mark of a manager with a death wish.

I'd take Santa Cruz on loan. He hasn't gone anywhere yet has he? Suppose he'd prefer to go to Blackburn though.

Steve Sidwell joins Wolves on loan

Thursday 6th January 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
Steve Sidwell joins Wolves on loan

Wolves today sealed their first signing of the transfer window with the arrival of Steve Sidwell on loan – and he could be joined by Villa team-mate Carlos Cuellar.

Sidwell did a U-turn after West Ham dragged their feet over the finances as they try to complete as many as 15 deals this month.

Instead, after passing a medical with the Hammers, the 28-year-old midfielder was at Molineux for last night’s 1-0 win over his former club Chelsea to sign until the end of the season, when his contract runs out.

Wolves had already agreed to pay his £40,000-a-week wages and a loan fee of around £250,000, before West Ham gave the man for whom Villa paid £5million the chance to move closer to his London home.

But with the Hammers dallying, Sidwell decided to sign for Wolves after all and watched the game from the directors’ box with captain Karl Henry and Eric Walters, who is agent to both players.

The former Reading star will now be reunited with some familiar faces from his Royals days after already ‘sounding out’ Marcus Hahnemann, Stephen Hunt and Kevin Doyle.

But, before the deal was confirmed, manager Mick McCarthy was remaining tight-lipped.

He said: “I haven’t spoken to him, so there’s nothing much I can say. A fee had been agreed with the clubs beforehand. His family were closer to West Ham and I had no gripe with that at all.

“But if he’s available and we can agree a fee and terms I’d take him in a heartbeat.”

Told Sidwell was at Molineux, McCarthy joked: “He’s a Wolves fan – didn’t you know?”

Cuellar is the third Villa centre-back Wolves have targeted this month.

But they have been blocked from signing Richard Dunne – at least for this month – because he is back in Villa’s team.

They have also cooled on Curtis Davies after an enquiry, because of concerns over his reliability and the fee.

With McCarthy having targeted Premier League experience and someone right-sided, 29-year-old Cuellar, a £7.8million signing from Glasgow Rangers in August 2008, is seen as a good fit.

The comments from the wolves fans didn't half make me laugh! Them and the blose supporters are really worried for us, r.

No Villa fan can moan?  Everyone was talking about us last year, this year is no different!
