Aston Villa and Newcastle go head-to-head for £7m-rated PSG winger Stephane Sessegnon

By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 10:52 AM on 2nd January 2011

The 26-year-old right winger is contracted until 2013 but wants to quit after a bust-up with his manager.
The Benin international is valued at £7million but both Villa and Newcastle are confident of securing a knockdown price.

Sessegnon revealed last month that it was 'impossible' for him to stay at PSG after being insulted by boss Antoine Kombouare. He claims Kombouare swore at him in training.

Sessegnon said: 'The coach insulted me. I believe that a coach cannot call one of his players 'a******' or call him 'a s*** player' as was the case with me.
'That is what he said to me, I am not going to cover up what he said

Don't know much about him, but he's very quick and skilful, but possibly a bit of a loose cannon. Maybe someone who follows Ligue 1 could comment. Here are some highlights. He could take Carew's 10 shirt should he sign

Sessegnon

I've signed for us on Pro Evo 11 and I hadn't a clue who he was. Good though.

Life imitating art. Lovely.

Maybe we'll swap Warnock for Samba? Givet can move to centre half then?

No Macheda for me we have enough potential what we need is a couple of proven class players to help bring that potential on.

Woodgate is an excellent defender,IF he could stay fit he would be ideal for us.

He won't though, that's the problem.

I think Woodgate is made out of Lego. After every game you can take him to bits and build a fire engine or a snake

Houllier said in his interview that Warnock was rested. If it's anything like the rest he gave to Richard Dunne he'll come back a far better player.

Figueroa not in the Wigan starting team...

He hasn't been for weeks.

I wanted him about a year ago but he hasn't been playing well for ages now so not sure he'd be much of an upgrade on Warnock really.

On the Fonz, I don't really get the impression he's ever going to score 15 goals a season for us tbh, less so as it appears to me Houllier dosen't really rate him either.

Not so much lego as soggy Weetabix.

: Rangers keeper Allan McGregor is wanted by Aston Villa 2nd January 2011 By Harry Pratt
ASTON VILLA are ready to step up their £4million pursuit of Rangers keeper Allan McGregor.

Manager Gerard Houllier has had scouts monitoring the progress of the Scottish international (below) during the past couple of months.

And the struggling Midlands outfit have now decided that McGregor, 28, is the best available long-term replacement for their veteran stopper Brad Friedel.

American Friedel, 39, is still waiting to find out if he will be offered a new one-year deal by Villa at the end of this season.

But that depends on whether they persuade Scottish champions Rangers to sell McGregor – either in the current transfer window or next summer.

If they do tie up a deal for McGregor – who has been capped seven times by Scotland – then Friedel will definitely be surplus to requirements at Villa Park.
