If the real Richard Dunne is back and he and Ged have let bygones be bygones we can cut a new Centre half of our list.

Agreed! There seemed to be a real unity about the team today. Would much prefer to look at new CB's in the summer when the likes of Adil Rami et al would be available.

Interesting on Figureoa, he was suspended for a game just before Christmas and hasn't come back to the starting line up since. Can't find anything stating he's injured. Would be a good option for us.

Macheda scored those two goals against us, then swaggered around Utd like a mini-me version of Ronaldo. I think he's too arrogant. I'm also quite sure his development has halted somewhat because he's not working hard enough. In the past two years, had he really work his balls off, Fergie would have played him more. But, he hit a few headlines and thought he was a superstar.

Fonzie any day of the week for me. Macheda's gifted, and an excellent finisher, but he just fancies himself far too much. Fonzies attitude has been questioned, but Macheda would be far worse. I also think, he'd believe he was too good for us.

Macheda's been living off that goal he scored against us last season for a while now. If we're gonna bring in a loan player it should be someone who's experienced,we've got plenty of our own youngsters.

we seem to keep providing him with new opportunities to enhance his reputation. His goal against this year wasn't bad. He's not as good as he's made out to be, but he'll be good if he applies himself. I wouldn't want him here though at the expese of Fonz. But I do want us to sign a proven experienced forward.

Aston Villa and Newcastle go head-to-head for £7m-rated PSG winger Stephane Sessegnon

By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 10:52 AM on 2nd January 2011

The 26-year-old right winger is contracted until 2013 but wants to quit after a bust-up with his manager.
The Benin international is valued at £7million but both Villa and Newcastle are confident of securing a knockdown price.

Sessegnon revealed last month that it was 'impossible' for him to stay at PSG after being insulted by boss Antoine Kombouare. He claims Kombouare swore at him in training.

Sessegnon said: 'The coach insulted me. I believe that a coach cannot call one of his players 'a******' or call him 'a s*** player' as was the case with me.
'That is what he said to me, I am not going to cover up what he said

Don't know much about him, but he's very quick and skilful, but possibly a bit of a loose cannon. Maybe someone who follows Ligue 1 could comment. Here are some highlights. He could take Carew's 10 shirt should he sign

Sessegnon

Well, his current manager thinks he's an 'asshole' and a 'shit player', so make of that what you will.

Was linked with a move to Schalke in the summer, around £15 million IIRC.

Decent, can play on the flanks or off the forwards as an attacking mid. But we're probably covered for that type of player.

There would be other priorities at present you'd feel.

The poor attitude of Sessegnon seems to be confirmed on Youtube comments:

- Good game 1 out of 3
- Poor mental attitude
- Similar to Jay-Jay Okocha

If GH can get him to be more consistent, he could well replace Gabby.

The difference between Rooney and Adebayor was demonstrated in injury time of the game just shown. Can anyone seriously imagine Adebayor coming back on with an injury for the last 5 minutes? Whatever you think of Rooney as a man you cannot question his commitment on the pitch.

In any case I think this whole thing is purely hypothetical as I don't think we can afford his wages.

no I dont expect that , but we have other players to do that , you dont see Berbetov doing it much neither. Hes a goalscorer and we need one...

Macheda is better than the Fonz at the moment and would score goals in my opinion.

Why should we take another club's young player and build him up at the expense of our own.

Woodgate put in the best defensive performance I've seen from an opposition player when playing for Newcastle.  Can't remember exactly which season but they were down to 10 men and Bobby Robson was their manager.  He was brilliant and if I remember correctly is was 0-0 (JW being the reason they kept a clean sheet).

A bit like Owen, if you got 15 games from them at somewhere approaching the top of their form then great but it's very unlikely.

A very good point indeed.
