Adebayor would be our new Collymore. Except Collymore had more talent. He has fallen out with teammates at Arsenal and Man City. In a time of player disruption at the Villa already, the last thing we need is one of the biggest ego's in the Premier League adding to the problems, whether he's a good player or not. Rooney is a different prospect altogether, and thats why you won't see him being loaned out to someone for 3 months.

oh aye, the guy who marched off slagging the england fans who'd travelled round the world to follow progressively gutless performances from England and yer man in particular. i can just imagine how that would go down on here if he'd been playing for villa or the yank franchise. But i agree about the wages- probably bollocks. but if its a goer, why not?

Adebayor is a class player but high maintainence and may be disruptive behind the scenes- we are hopefully trying to get rid of that kind of character and i'd be surprised if he came - Santa cruz might be a better option.

Clearly we need a goalscorer and I'm pleased to see us being linked in that area, interesting to see man city have made several changes today but still milner can't get off the bench- the grass is not always greener!

Weidenfeller/McGregor - free
Samba - £4m
Wheater - £2m
Bendtner - £6.5m

Value for money and the types of player that will only increase in value should we sell them.

Agreed jj but not sure about your valuations- I think samba, wheater and bentner would cost more than that- keeper wise we would probably have to pay a nominal fee as well.

I think Samba would be closer to £6m. Blackburn won't let him go on the cheap, so hopefully we can package Dunne or Davies as part of the deal. Wheater is out of contract in the summer so that number doesn't look too wide of the mark. McGregor wouldn't be free, but the other lad is out of contract, so he'd be a decent price also. I don't know much about Weidenfeller, but McGregor has a good reputation.

I thuoght McGregor only had 6months left?

They only paid 250k for Samba IIRC, they've Nelsen and Givet as a starting two who could take over, and the very highly rated Jones (although he's out for the season) as cover. Chimbonda can play there too.

If he's handed in a transfer request it waves his loyalty bonus...

I don't think £4m would be too wide of the mark. Maybe we'd have to throw in Davies though.

I don't know much about Weidenfeller,

He's kept a clean sheet in half his games this season, a better record than anyone else in germany. I've not seen him play though.

Me neither, well never noticed him anyway before. But he has quality reports from everyone I've spoken too.

Good thing is Germany have a plethora of quality 'keepers atm, younger ones too. So Weidenfeller is unlikely to get in any German squads. So won't have to travel with the national team.

Just looking and he's been at Dortmund for nine years but has only made 180 appearances so he's not been first choice long, despite being over 30 now.

On another note I see that their manager is called Jupp Klopp and they have a midfielder called Sven Bender.

Don't forget explosion-in-a-consonant-factory Jakub Błaszczykowski.
