The Daily Mail reckon Robbie Keane would take a 50% pay cut (33 grand) to join the scum or Wolves. With Sidwell going and another few players that would easily be covered. Not the long term fix but would definitely get us goals and out of this mess .......
He's scored something like 3 goals in his last 30 league games. Heskey has a better goalscoring record over the last couple of seasons.

(this was from memory of an indignant, angry post from a few months ago, so I accept the exact facts might be wrong - but the gist is more or less correct)
He has hardly played this season. In pre season when he was playing in a tournament every game. He was top scorer along with the player of the tournament. His work rate is high and is good in the changing room ?? Even twitchy face commented on how it is very hard to leave him out before Van De Vaart turned up ......
We beat Juventus with our youngsters in a pre-season tournament. It means bugger all.

I've gone back and counted just to prove the point. One goal in his last nineteen Premier League games.

How would that help us? Why not play Delfouneso who has a better record than that?
Hands up with them stats did not think it was that bad. Would you honestly put your money on the Fonz scoring more goals than Keane to the end of this season ??
I would say that anyone who wouldn't would be absolutely insane.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is planning a January swoop for Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing.

With Manchester City unwilling to do any business over Adam Johnson and Nedum Onuoha, and Wigan placing a £15million tag on Charles N'Zogbia's head, Bruce is ready to turn his attention to former Middlesbrough winger Downing.

That has a funny smell about it.

- Aston Villa are competing with Fulham for Blackburn defender Chris Samba and Cluj's giant striker Lacina Traore.

Samba, 25, is seen by manager Gerard Houllier as someone who can give greater physical presence to his squad and that would be enhanced further by 6ft 8ins tall Traore, 20, who is ready to move to England in a £3m deal

Have to disagree. Keane has a massive amount of experience and under pressure and in a relegation battle would rather him over the Fonz everytime. Not knocking the Fonz but he lacks the cutting edge despite recent stats .... Hopefully Houllier will pull someone out the bag that will surpass both there predicted expectations. To be honest Gabby could still have a massive impact ......

I know you tube clips can be misleading. But Lucina Traore who the Daily Mail say we are in for really looks the part. 6`8 20yrs old, two feet and is good in the air. Maybe this is fantastic editing. (first 10 min clip on you tube)

By Rob Stewart and Sandy Macaskill

Sunderland will bide their time for Downing but with owner Ellis Short expected to hand over around £12 million in the summer Bruce will use his entire transfer kitty to try to prise away the former Middlesbrough player from Villa Park.

A left-winger of Downing’s calibre has been Bruce’s top priority from the day he took the reins at the Stadium of Light. He went into the transfer market 12 months ago thinking he had Downing’s former Riverside understudy, Adam Johnson, in the bag only for the Sunderland-born player to succumb to Manchester City’s charms.

Since then Bruce has been constantly linked with Charles N’Zogbia.

Downing, 26, has been in impressive form for Villa this season despite his club’s travails and is their top scorer with six goals. While there is no suggestion he is unsettled at a club he only joined 18 months ago, Bruce is closely monitoring the situation at Villa.

Villa would be expected to resist any approach for the player. “We are at a stage where if I am going to get £10-12 million I would spend it on one player,” Bruce said. “We have the nucleus of a good young team. There is no point in bringing in a £2 million player any more.”

Macheda wants a move, preferably a loan, apparently.

Worth a look?

Not for me. The only player I would take on loan would be Woodgate, and that's because I could see a very good chance of a permanent deal if it worked out. I generally hate loan deals for a club of our stature.
There was a little Italian from Leeds with an Alice band who didn't do too badly for us he even scored a hat trick, trouble was he wanted too much money to sign permanently. Edit Benito Carbone

We were owned by Ellis at the time though. And it was supposedly a done deal. And then it wasn't, which kind of sums up the point I'm making. We had to start from scratch again finding a striker, 6 months after finding him.

And was that Gilles de Bilde?  On loan?  Or is my memory acting up?

No, De Bilde was either 12 months after or 12 months before I think. He was one of the many examples of loan deals we have made being a complete waste of time. Nilis was the replacement for Carbone, and that was short lived for other reasons, a great pity.

Mahamadou Diarra linked with us & Everton on SSN website.

He really would be a fantastic signing! Even at 29 he'd have afair few years in him. He's a year younger than Claude Makele when he signed for Chelsea and really could have the same impact.
He would be a brilliant role model for Delph and if he comes, Forfana.

Really hope there's something in it!

Prem duo chase Diarra

Also a tenous link to Samba and Lacina Traore in the Daily Mail...Samba would be a good option at the right price. Don't think Traore would be very good in the Prem.

Samba & Traore

it would be a good deal to send that prick Dunne back up to the NW as part of getting Samba. The Traore kid is 19 and plays for Inter. He's 6ft 8!!!
