He can play centrally as good as Ash, probably better because he is more of a goal threat.

We need 3 wingers, look when Marc was out. If Ash leaves he needs replacing and N'Zogbia would be perfect.

I always thought he only played wide for Wigan?

Yes, we need 3 wingers, but that's the ideal situation and we can't realistically expect large numbers in during Jan, so I'd hold off on the wide berths and concentrate on striker and DCM.

He wasn't out of position for their first goal.

Oh yes he was! Watch the build up to the goal again rather than just the goal itself...

And he has never been 'brilliant' for us...not in my opinion anyway. That's the sort of word I reserve for the way in which Bale has played these last few months and Warnock has never ever been remotely at that level...not within a million miles

Oh no he wasn't, in the build up he was marking Defoe, because Defoe was on his side. Modric hit a great pass to their full back, and Downing trotted back without a care in the world.

Warnock has been poor all season but you can't blame him for every goal we concede.

Way out of position as I said, nowhere to be seen.As he is time and time and time again. And the pass wasn't that great, there was acres of space to play it into. An absolutly gaping hole!  Not that I am in any way blaming him for every goal we concede, he is no worse than the rest of a very ordinary bunch of defenders...

Exactly. Warnock was exactly where he should have been and marking the person he should have been. It was Downing who allowed their full back to run past him.

Don't get me wrong, he does make more mistakes than he should, but too many people are too quick to blame him when it isn't actually his fault.

Would you rather he ignored Defoe, who was the immediate danger in the position he was in, and went wide to mark Hutton? I wouldn't. Modric would have just slotted it to Defoe who'd have been in on goal.

I'd suggest you watch the build up to the goal again.

Warnock often gets sucked into the middle when the ball switches flanks.

he does get into central positions , hes a nuisance to defence .   can beat a player easy and I like his set pieces..   hes better than young for them.

He should be narrow when the ball is on the opposite flank as the immediate danger is the ball into the box or the centre of the pitch in front of our goal. If the ball is switched flanks he moves as the ball moves.

I think Warnock is playing through injuries which is affecting his judgement when it comes to getting tight on an attacker or sitting off him, which is why he is diving in so much.

Perfectly good players don't go shit in 6 months for no reason, the same with Dunne, but his problem is, he's unfit as opposed to being injured.

And when the fullback does tuck in the winger plays deeper to help guard the open grass he leaves, mainly by tracking the opposing winger or fullback looking to run into that space.

These are basics that we seem to have forgotten as a team.

Seen it several times and Warnock was very much at fault. Mind you, you are right, he was certainly not the only culprit on this occasion or on others that come to mind! He got sucked in dreadfully, watching the player instead of the ball. He does it time and time again mind you so I wouldn't wish to single out this particular appalling error of judgement. Anyway, not worth arguing over such a crap player who is so clearly out of his depth. Let's focus on who we might get to replace him as this is the transfer thread!

Aston Villa centre-back Richard Dunne is emerging as a possible January transfer target for Leeds United.
The Republic of Ireland international is out of favour at Villa Park and could appear on Simon Grayson's radar with United's manager planning key improvements to his in-form squad

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy is looking to add to his defensive options by signing out of favour Aston Villa centre-back Richard Dunne, according to the Irish Independent.

The Republic of Ireland international has gone from central figure to bench-warmer at Villa Park since the arrival of Gerard Houllier as manager.

Reports of training ground bust-ups with assistant manager Gary McCallister have added to the speculation that Dunne will be leaving in the near future.

Numerous clubs have been mooted as potential destinations for the former Manchester City defender, with Celtic being linked strongly.

It is thought that the short distance between Birmingham and Wolverhampton and the fact McCarthy knows Dunne from his days in charge of the Irish national team might secure a deal for his Wolves side.

Like it or not we're in a relegation dog fight right now and the last thing we should do is strenthen our opposition in that fight.

Even if it costs us more in terms of residual wages, we should send him to either Celtic or Leeds over Wolves.
