Those 4 and Makoun and we would not go down JJ. If he can get Makoun in it might give him the general in the middle he needs to drive the team to his style of play.

Aston Villa has made a second approach for Lyon midfielder Jeane Makoun as they looks to strengthen during the January transfer period.

The Cameroon international himself has expressed desire to exit from the former French champions in search of regular first team action.

Villa have reportedly intensified their bid for the box-to-box player following their inability to land Real Madrid’s Mahamadou Diarra.

Tottenham Hotspurs are also said to be interested in signing the £7m rated Makoun

Agree N'Zogbia would be a good buy, especially with the uncertaintity around Ash.

Maynor Figueror is into the last 18 months of his current contract with Wigan, so maybe throwing £12m for both might pursuade the Lactics to give them up.

I think trying to tempt Dortmund to part with Weidenfeller this window for £2m would bea good idea too. I like Big Brad and he has pulled off some great saves this season, but I think we need someone a bit younger to take us forward.

Really excited about the prospect of Forfana coming in, remember seeing him at the U19's this summer and he looked so good with the ball at his feet, seemed to glide across the ground like Viera in his pomp! Maybe getting him and Makoun would freshen things up in the middle.

Adil Rami would be a top notch, A1, first class apointment. I sincerely hope the rumours are true that we are trying to tempt him here. He would be our new Mellberg!

Then get either Vagner Love in from CSKA or Kevin Gameiro from Lorient. I'd even entertain getting Adebayor from Citeh, however much of a twat he is, he scores goals...

Getting rid of Carew, Dunne, Ireland, Sidwell and maybe Davies while not raising masses of cash, will free up a hell of a lot of wages!

Selling Ashley for top dollar this window, together with the money from Ireland & possible Dunne might just pay for the whole shopping list.

New for early 2011

..................Weidenfeller..................

Lichaj........Collins......Rami.......Figuero

.............Makoun.....Forfana................

Albrighton........V-Love...........N'Zogbia

..................Delfouneso......................

Subs: Friedel, Clark, Cuellar, Delph, Bannan, Agbonlahor, Heskey
Reserve: Guzan, L.Young, Petrov, NRC, Hogg, Herd, Weimann

Then further rebuilding in the summer!
The futures bright, the futures powered by Chardonnay! hic!

All very well but can you see any buyers for the 'Outs' other than Sidwell.  I think we will struggle to get rid of more than one or two in January as somebody recommended that most of them be put on large contracts.

Be really pleased if the reports about Makoun are true and we end up signing him.

I've said it before but we're in a similar positon to Spurs 2-3 years ago. Changed their manager after getting close, shifted out dross and lost three of their best players for massive profits.

Invested it in younger players at small fees and reshaped the team.

If we replace Friedel, Dunne, Davies, Beye, Warnock, Sidwell, Milner/Ireland, Ashley and Carew

With the likes of

Weidenfeller, Adil Rami, Wheater, Clyne, Figueroa, Fofarna, Makoun, N'Zogbia and Hoarau

We'll probably have made a profit in terms of transfer fee, lowered our wages budge, have a decent mix of top level experience and a much, much younger, hungrier squad.

It's the model Tottenham used, and it's something the likes of Porto, Sevilla and Lyon have been doing with relative success for years.

Not sure how much we need new players as much as we need to get back Martin Laursen as our defensive coach as we've still not got one! I'm sure some of the players would respond to the appointment especially the ones that know him. It would help maybe established a better bond between the players and the manager.

I was just thinking about ML as a defensive coach myself.  Another I thought of on a short term appointment until he gets himself fixed up with a managers job would be Gareth Southgate.

I don't doubt N'Zogbia's ability but he does have previous as being difficult, do we wan't another until such time as we can sort ourselves out?

Personally I think Jarvis at Wolves would be a better option, and in our current state if it weakens them so much the better.

I really rate Jarvis and N'Zogbia, either would be good, I think N'Zogbia is faster and more direct but Jarvis is very tricky and would be less hassle.

I think N'Zogbia would kick on and be worth a fortune in the future though, and not convinced Jarvis is any better than Downing really.

Good call on Martin Laursen. Or indeed even Southgate.

N'Zogbia would be a good replacement for Ashley Young if he were to go.
