Watford have a 15% sell on clause on anything above £9.6m. GT spoke about it at the last Watford AGM...

“The interesting thing is, because I live in the East Midlands I hear things, Ashley hasn't signed a new deal and will shortly being going into the last year of his present contract, so he will need to sign a new contract or he will move on.

“We will just have to wait and see. Because of the way he has been playing recently and the way market prices are, it is likely if he is sold it will be for more than £9.6m, so we will just have to wait and see.”

I don't think we could begrudge him a move to a club like United, as much as that sticks in the craw.

Tommy Doc's QPR Programme notes in Villa Memories recall a time where it wasn't inconceivable that we wouldn't  just be viewed as one of the big guns again, but 'the first name in football' no less.

That might have just been hokum, a new manager playing to the gallery at a struggling former superpower as was (as is, to a certain extent).  But many would have agreed with him then.
