Other outlets reporting Houllier as saying there's now way he'll be sold in January but the Mirror turn it round to the most negative slant possible.

Aston Villa steal a march on Chelsea and Liverpool with move for Le Havre's Gueida Fofana
By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER

Aston Villa are in negotiations to sign Gueida Fofana - a player tipped to fill Patrick Vieira's former role as France's midfield mainstay.
Sportsmail can reveal that Villa bosses have been in discussions with Le Havre since Monday in an attempt to agree a fee for the 19-year old, who captained his country to a 2-1 win over Spain in the European Under-19 Championships final in France last summer.

The athletic 6ft tall midfielder was in the sights of Liverpool and Chelsea at the start of the season but is on the verge of joining Villa after Gerard Houllier stole a march on his Barclays Premier League rivals.
Aware that Fofana is out of contract at the end of the season, Houllier moved in with an offer of around £800,000 up front, with a sell-on clause entitling Le Havre to 20 per cent of any subsequent transfer.

If he's anything like Viera he'd be most welcome.

these are the sort of signings I was hoping for...

Me too .... watch this space I guess.

I don't like this comment at all

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has admitted winger Ashley Young may be offloaded if the right amount of money is offered. With 18 months left on the 25-year-old's deal, Houllier said: "In January the best clubs keep their best players but you never know if someone comes with crazy money."

every player in the world has a price. We're no more a selling club than Man U are in that if someone offers you something idiotic for one of your assets, you'd almost be a fool not to accept. The best clubs in the world have the ability to buy low, sell high and remain competitive and successful. That should be our goal.

he looks very good. It's what I hope is the future for us with GH. That is able to compete with the likes of Wenger for the very best talent across Europe because of his knowledge and contacts before they become household names. Coupled with the development of our own local players it will be fantastic to see some of the best prospects in football playing at Villa Park.

Lisandro Lopez cost Lyon £22m and has only got better since. He won't be going anywhere for £10/12m anytime soon.

Almeida's just signed for Besiktas.

There's a clause in Ireland's contract which will allow us to cancel it if he is certified insane.

But his agent claims there is no sanity clause

Looks and sounds decent.  Exactly the type of signing I hoped Houllier would bring in.

MON would probably have been asking Randy for £18m to spend on Robert Huth and Jermaine Jenas.
