Parker has Spurs written all over it, we might as well not even try humiliating ourselves by bidding.

Our transfer targets for the next couple of years will surely not be middle-aged Englishmen who cover every blade of grass and want £75k a week.

For good or ill, they will be skinny 20 year olds from FC Hative Niort. Some will work out, some won't.

Aston Villa steal a march on Chelsea and Liverpool with move for Le Havre's Gueida Fofana
By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER

Aston Villa are in negotiations to sign Gueida Fofana - a player tipped to fill Patrick Vieira's former role as France's midfield mainstay.
Sportsmail can reveal that Villa bosses have been in discussions with Le Havre since Monday in an attempt to agree a fee for the 19-year old, who captained his country to a 2-1 win over Spain in the European Under-19 Championships final in France last summer.

The athletic 6ft tall midfielder was in the sights of Liverpool and Chelsea at the start of the season but is on the verge of joining Villa after Gerard Houllier stole a march on his Barclays Premier League rivals.
Aware that Fofana is out of contract at the end of the season, Houllier moved in with an offer of around £800,000 up front, with a sell-on clause entitling Le Havre to 20 per cent of any subsequent transfer.

If he's anything like Viera he'd be most welcome.

these are the sort of signings I was hoping for...

What a potentially refreshing change from signing some over-rated older English player for £9m with a sell-on value of about £2m...as we are now discovering

I'd turn my nose up at Krancjar. I dont know what anybody sees in him to be honest. The odd nice ball aside, he's mostly anonymous.

Couldn't agree more, seasoned Pompey watchers and friends of mine down here say exactly that about his time with them. The very definition of a 'highlights' player

So Curtis Davies has snubbed an attempt by Sven to sign him permanently and will return to the Villa in January, he is still on 49 league games for us, I read ages ago he gets a pay rise if he plays 50 league games, hence he went out on loan. What happens now? Dunne to go Curtis to fight it out with Clark for the 3rd choice centre half?

Yeah we did pay too much for him, but he's still a player worth keeping for the time being.

If we pull this deal off and at the start of the window, I will be well chuffed.

I get the feeling that transfer windows from here on in are going to be a bit more exciting and a lot less frustrating than the last few years!

I don't like this comment at all

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has admitted winger Ashley Young may be offloaded if the right amount of money is offered. With 18 months left on the 25-year-old's deal, Houllier said: "In January the best clubs keep their best players but you never know if someone comes with crazy money."

Well, it depends what "crazy money" is.
I want to keep Ashley Young but if a daft offer comes in, and lets face it, that could really only come from Man City, Chelsea or Real Madrid, you'd have to consider it. Especially if he hasnt signed a new contract.

I'd rather we sent out the message
'Not for sale under any circumstances'
Losing Milner weakened us, but losing our most threatening player would really fuck us up.
It would also confirm that we ARE a selling club.

Uncertain and worrying times.

I agree mate about what happened with Milner weakening us. Weve been down this road before about players 'concentrating on football and talking about contracts later'. Ive got a feeling he's looking to move on,if we can get good money in the summer and re invest wisely it may be no bad thing. We have to learn from teams like Spurs about strengthening after selling their best players.

If we can sell him,buy someone like N'zogbia and still have a bit of a profit then that may be the way forward, especially if Young wants to go.
