Why sell Curtis Davies and bring Wheater in for the same money? This is reminding me of the GT2 reign. No player with an ounce of ambition will come to us if Wheater is the kind of player we will sell Davies and Dunne to bring in.

Because attitude is a major component of success in any walk of life. Dunne and Davies represent the past and are bitter at change and rejection. Wheater would look at this as a massive opportunity to push on in his career. If you can get him for net return of 3 or 4 mil given the sale of the other two, then it's a deal worth making.

Davies has done nothing wrong, he was playing well, but was ill-advised about when too have the operation, probably Martin saying no don't have the op knowing full well he was looking at new CB's.
Yeah he spoke out at Martin, but he has only spoke the truth.

They haven't yet. But they will.

Sure as eggs is eggs, when a fackin' barra boy says it isn't for sale, it means it is.  It's just like, well, it's gonna coscha innit?

and yet despite a supposedly fresh start under a new management team he was shipped out on loan. What does that tell you?

It's all about wages, GH is getting rid of players MON payed well over the odds for and is restucturing as any business will do from time to time. We have all shook our heads at the ridiculous amounts some very average players are getting at Villa. Help me out here, i'm struggling to find a player that Villa wanted out that turned his career around and we regretted selling. We are the half way house it seems if we sell you you aint much good.

Cahill
Crouch

I'd throw Gardner in there too. Take away the emotion from and it and take him on his values only, he's a better shout than Sidwell.

OK he wanted first team football but he surely would have stuck it out a bit longer given a few more opportunities?

I never rated Gardner when he was here but he looks decent enough playing in the centre for Bham. Thought Steve Davis was the kind of footballer we should have kept for a 3 man midfield. He has done very well for Rangers. An argument could also be made for Ridgewell. We have spent 13m on left backs that are no better than the job he is doing at Bham, Ridgewell was never given a chance at left back at Villa but would be a useful back up to have at a minimum.

Ferguson always tries to keep the home grown players as squad players. He plays them every now and again and they stay. Naturally it is hard to keep hold of them all if they want to be a regular but I think we have spent big money on replacements that are no better.

Craig Gardner would have played most of this season if he'd have still been here. And, would have done a decent job.

I'll give you Crouch but Cahill we didn't want to sell he wanted to leave to get more first team football.

Same with Gardner he asked for the move we didn't sack him.

I know he's a ******, but if Adebayor is available at £7m like reported today then I'd be having some of that.

Adebayor would want ridiculous wages & I'm sure Redknapp has already 'ruled out' a move for him. Triffic triffic player, but he belongs to Man City...

Is there really anything to be gained by going back over the Gardner, Davis and Cahill debates ad nauseum, particularly on the transfer thread?

And Ridgewell. Decent left-back these days. Better than Warnock ;-)
