That Stephen Ireland stuff must be bullshit, sure he hasn't even settled in yet. He needs to knuckle down and get into GH's plans.
If he's engineering a move already I fear for football and really think that has finally dissapeared up it's own arse and the soul of the game at that level is gone.
The lad needs to be motived by something other than money, he must have enough at this stage. Is having shite taste very expensive nowadays?

Carrick? No thanks, never seen what the fuss is with Carrick. I'd rather play Clark or Bannan in the middle.

The Mail wont give up on this one.

Aston Villa warned by Borussia Dortumund: We'll do everything in our power to keep hold of Weidenfeller

EXCLUSIVE
Gerard Houllier's transfer plans have been given a jolt after Borussia Dortmund vowed to do everything they could to hang on to keeper Roman Weidenfeller. The 30-year old is out of contract at the end of the season and is viewed by Aston Villa boss Houllier as the ideal long-term replacement for Villa Park veteran Brad Friedel.
Contact is believed to have been made, and Houllier is understood to have received a positive feedback from Weidenfeller about joining Villa on a Bosman free transfer next summer, by which time Friedel will have turned 40 and become a free agent himself.

But Bundesliga pacesetters Dortmund have responded by making it clear they will fight to extend the in-form keeper’s stay at the renamed Signal Iduna Park, formerly the Westfalenstadion. Weidenfeller has kept eight clean sheets in 16 appearances this season - the most by any keeper in the Bundesliga - and has played an integral part in Dortmund moving well clear of the pack at the top of the table. Michael Zorc, who spent his entire playing career at Dortmund as a central midfielder and is now the club’s general manager, revealed how their determination to hang on to Weidenfeller had been reinforced by Villa’s interest. There were suggestions Dortmund had given up hope of talking him into signing a new contract, but Zorc insisted: ‘We do not want to lose him and will be speaking to him again about his future.’
Villa remain confident they will win the battle for the experienced 6ft 2in stopper, though, after an indication he wants to test himself abroad and clear sign that Dortmund may struggle to match the terms Houllier is able to offer.

Aston Villa are interested in Villarreal forward Guillermo Andres Lopez. The 18-year-old is also wanted by PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona. (Daily Mail)

Anyone know anything about him?

http://www.clubcall.com/aston-villa/villa-ace-set-for-bhoys-loan-deal-1135128.html

Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland is reportedly set to join Celtic on a six-month loan deal in the January transfer window.

The Hoops are one of several clubs, including Everton, said to be interested in signing the former Republic of Ireland international star, who has struggled for first-team action under boss Gerard Houllier this season.
And it appears that Bhoys boss Neil Lennon is going to win the race for his signature on a temporary basis next month, but only if the SPL giants agree to fork out towards his reported £68,000-a-wek wages.
The news comes just days after Ireland revealed that he was planning to ask Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni to consider him for the national team again after he decided to quit international football back in 2007.

Am I the only one who doesn't get into a head spin regarding how much footballers get paid? It really doesn't bother me. They are paid what someone wants to give them. Yes it may not be right but in an entertainment industry that we all pay into why not give the stars of the show the better salaries? It happens in all other popular forms of entertainment that has worldwide appeal. Whether in films, sport, or whatever.

No, it doesn't really bother me, either. They get paid a ridiculous amount of money and some distinctly average footballers are absolutely minted. But... that's just the way it is these days. Can't change it.

It takes all of the season ticket money generated by the 150 seats in my block of the Holte to pay Ireland's wages for one single week.

I just wished some of them even pretended they gave a shit.

Interestingly, Ron Saunders used this argument when justifying the bonus payment system which he introduced. Frank Sinatra was the example he gave, if I remember correctly.

Be that at it may, players emoluments have now spiralled completely out of control and in the current economic climate it is hardly surprising that larger numbers of supporters who often have to make real sacrifices to go watch their team take a dim view of these arrangements.  The absurd, grotesque  conspicuous consumption of the less enlightened of the players only make matters worse, and it will all surely end in tears.

You know, I don't particularly mind how much they get paid either, provided they work hard and show some vague appreciation of just how lucky they are. However, when Stephen Ireland gets paid £68000 for sulking in the stands/on the pitch, then I do get just the tiniest bit irked. It's the way the culture has gone that annoys me as much as the money. I don't mind top performers getting paid top dollar, but when you see a top footballer just get rewarded with a huge contract and then he just visibly loses all hunger and decides to coastthen there's something wrong. When you've got cocky little twentythree year olds running around on hundreds of thousands of pounds a week, whther or not they have just punched someone's lights out at the weekend or been involved in whatever sordid affair Wayne Rooney has been lately, you just wonder where the accountability has gone to. I'm all for the top footballers who deliver week in week out getting their share, but it would be really nice if there were some system of clawback for when the wheels come off. Frankly I can see a lot of parallels between football and the banking system at the moment, but then that's a story for another day...
