Good player but we've got the directness in Gabby (and Heskey) already.

I think we need someone with a little more guile, personally.

Kalinic and Santa Cruz fit that bill, Santa Cruz will be on too much and he's a little too old and Kalinic hasn't done enough to warrant a big move yet, IMO.

Llorente is another one, but Bilbao won't sell 'cos of their policy and why would he want to come here?

Dani Guiza is someone I wanted us to look at a while ago but he's 30 now.

But I'd prefer us to look for the next Berbatov than the next Peter Crouch.

Someone who has steadily improved over the last few years for club and country is Hugo Almeida from Werder Bremen and Portugal. Would be a good replacement for Carew. He's also takes a mean freekick, has a left foot that makes Tommy Hitz look like he has rickets! He's out of contract in the summer as well.

Good player but I think he's at Madrid as soon as Mourinho can convince Perez to let him get rid of Benzema for a less established name.

From The Mail, I see that a few on VT were saying that the Twitter account referred to is a fake.

Quote
Celtic close in on loan deal for Aston Villa star Stephen Ireland

Celtic hope to receive clearance to pursue a six-month loan deal for unsettled Aston Villa star Stephen Ireland within the next 48 hours. As Sportsmail revealed 10 days ago, manager Neil Lennon wants to add star quality to his midfield by luring the Republic of Ireland international north. Last week, Lennon watched the player make a rare start in Villa's 3-0 defeat to Liverpool following an unsatisfactory summer switch from Manchester City.

The success of Celtic's pursuit will be dictated by a meeting between Ireland's agents and Villa owner Randy Lerner on Thursday. Lerner will be asked to foot half of Ireland's £68,000-a-week wage before sanctioning a move to Glasgow.
Ireland quit international football in 2007, but posted a Twitter message this week admitting he may ask coach Giovanni Trapattoni for a comeback to enhance his hopes of securing a move to another Barclays Premier League side.

Foot the bill: Celtic want Villa to pay half of Ireland's £68,000-a-week deal to complete the temporary switch
Excluded from Gerard Houllier's long-term plans, Ireland sees a benefit to joining Celtic and an international return.
He said: 'If I can't get a move in January, I need to look at the summer and playing for Ireland will at least put me in the shop window.'

So Stephen Ireland wants us to pay him £884,000 to play for Celtic for the rest of the season? He's not as mad as people make if we agree to the blackmail. The money would be better spent at the Priory.

in other news, according to some bollocks website called imscouting.com, Man City is going to bid for Iniesta. Apparently he's ready to switch addresses from beautiful Barcelona to the cold and damp North West of England and play for those money grabbing bastards. Thus no longer wanting to play alongside Xavi, Messi, Villa etc  at the quite probably the most attractive, dominant and consistent club side in world football today. He'll probably convince those other 3 to join him in January too.

He is currently a part of perhaps the best club side of all time.  It would take puke inducing amounts of money to get him or any of that team.

Another striker I'm surprised hasn't been linked yet is Fred, the Brazilian who Houllier signed when at Lyon and partnered with Benzema when ever possible, in fact he was the reason Carew was left out all the time. He had a good scoring record in France and an even better one since he went back to Brazil with Fluminese 40 goals in 60 games!!
Fred left Lyon soon after Houllier and Alan Perrin didn't fancy him much.
He's still only 27 aswell... A possibility I reckon, one I wouldn't turn my nose up at!!

Celtic can go and fuck themselves - sell him for £4m in jan rather than pay him £34000 a week to play for some Scottish shit.

I'm with Olney. I think RSC's time has passed. He's persistently crocked, is 30 odd now, and in his European career hasn't actually played much. I'm pretty sure he's had maybe 1-2 full seasons and that's it. He was pretty much a bench warmer at Bayern, in between injuries.

Not with a ten foot pole. He did look the mutts nuts in his first year at Blackburn, but that was a long time ago now.
