Anyone in mind Greg? I remember last year posting andy Carroll would be worth a punt - I just wish we had gone for him at the time - now I don't think he's gettable , a yr ago he would have gone for maybe £4m.

That's the kind of player we need though.

Yes, I was suggesting him a couple of years ago. No chance now though unless Newcastle go down because he's well embedded in there. He's a hero.
He is the sort of striker we need though.

Good player but we've got the directness in Gabby (and Heskey) already.

I think we need someone with a little more guile, personally.

Kalinic and Santa Cruz fit that bill, Santa Cruz will be on too much and he's a little too old and Kalinic hasn't done enough to warrant a big move yet, IMO.

Llorente is another one, but Bilbao won't sell 'cos of their policy and why would he want to come here?

Dani Guiza is someone I wanted us to look at a while ago but he's 30 now.

But I'd prefer us to look for the next Berbatov than the next Peter Crouch.

Doubt Keane will want to come even  if he's wanted if he's been speaking to Dunne or Ireland lately!

If he didn't want to crawl over broken glass to join us he can quite happily go and fuck himself.

From The Mail, I see that a few on VT were saying that the Twitter account referred to is a fake.

Quote
Celtic close in on loan deal for Aston Villa star Stephen Ireland

Celtic hope to receive clearance to pursue a six-month loan deal for unsettled Aston Villa star Stephen Ireland within the next 48 hours. As Sportsmail revealed 10 days ago, manager Neil Lennon wants to add star quality to his midfield by luring the Republic of Ireland international north. Last week, Lennon watched the player make a rare start in Villa's 3-0 defeat to Liverpool following an unsatisfactory summer switch from Manchester City.

The success of Celtic's pursuit will be dictated by a meeting between Ireland's agents and Villa owner Randy Lerner on Thursday. Lerner will be asked to foot half of Ireland's £68,000-a-week wage before sanctioning a move to Glasgow.
Ireland quit international football in 2007, but posted a Twitter message this week admitting he may ask coach Giovanni Trapattoni for a comeback to enhance his hopes of securing a move to another Barclays Premier League side.

Foot the bill: Celtic want Villa to pay half of Ireland's £68,000-a-week deal to complete the temporary switch
Excluded from Gerard Houllier's long-term plans, Ireland sees a benefit to joining Celtic and an international return.
He said: 'If I can't get a move in January, I need to look at the summer and playing for Ireland will at least put me in the shop window.'

The BBC Gossip column have reported that Man City want to buy Iniesta for £85m.  Good luck with that...  Muppets.

The site also has this about Onuoha:
"Defender Nedum Onuoha is ready to quit Manchester City and join Sunderland for £6m where he is enjoying a successful loan spell."

I thought he had joined Sunderland permanently.  I'd have him for £6m.  A long term replacement for Young.

Someone who has steadily improved over the last few years for club and country is Hugo Almeida from Werder Bremen and Portugal. Would be a good replacement for Carew. He's also takes a mean freekick, has a left foot that makes Tommy Hitz look like he has rickets! He's out of contract in the summer as well.

Good thinking, and how about that striker? Forgot his name, but he's also playing at S'land and is on loan from Man utd, looks decent.

Football is getting pathetic, when the likes of Salifou become millionaires within 2 years.

Interesting. I've never really rated him but he does seem to have hit new heights recently and been difficult to ignore.

These rumours about McGeady and Keane are disturbing stuff.

I'm hoping that they are just that. Rumours.
