Keano from a reliable source

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/football/article-23907139-robbie-keane-wants-aston-villa-deal-while-the-hammers-size-up-ohara.do
Of course he wants to move to the Villa, we're the only club that will come close to paying him what he wants. If we can't find better, I'd offer him a two year contract with an option on a third year. Ideally I'd make it 18 months instead of two years but I doubt he'd accept it. Hopefully we've got other options.

We really need to stay away from these kind of deals.

£6 million might not seem a lot by modern standards, but throw in wages as well and it would be a substantial chunk of money that could be better spent elsewhere.

Keane -like Dunne- is a player with a big reputation on a downward spiral. That we'd be battling the likes of West Ham and Fulham for his signature says a lot. He might give us 6 months> a seasons worth of decent form at best, but I doubt it would be more than that.

He'll run about a lot, and -as sure as night follows day- if he has a few good games initially there will be plenty of smug 'I told you so' type posts. But we've got to start thinking long term. Players like Keane aren't the future. Even if we are short of numbers at present, we can do better.

I think keane would be a good signing and would be a better finisher than we have at the club, gabby could learn a lot alongside him.

Agreed, he'll add some trickery and movement.

Would you swap Ashley Young for James Milner?
Probably, only because in Albrighton I think we've got a similar player coming through.

I don't think we have a similar player to Milner coming through.

so..

Does anyone know what sort off player Gary Gardner is? Who would be compared too currenly?

James Milner, so I'm told.

so we have two players similar to Ash and Jimmy, would you swap Ash for Jimmy?

I probably would because jimmy is a better all round player and will provide more goals in my opinion.

Looks like some cheeky young scamp has been up to no good on Wikipedia.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Makoun

"On 16 February 2010, Makoun scored the only goal in Lyon's first leg UEFA Champions League knockout round win over Real Madrid at Stade Gerland by hitting a looping shot from 25 yards out over the head of goalkeeper Iker Casillas and into the top corner of the net in the 47th minute. He is set to sign for Aston Villa in January 2011"

Also a silly rumour from http://astonvilla-views.com/2010/12/14/speculation-rumours-itks-yes-its-that-time-of-year-avfc/#comment-18659

And finaly back on Villatalk ‘sellyoakvilla’ has posted some comments that indicate Milner could be coming back.

Funny because I have actually just heard Milner is available for a cut price if we want to take him back !

He is not happy on the bench at all, I know that 100%. And when he is playing he’s being forced to play out of position. Trust me when I say he would much rather go to a club where he is confident they will be challenging for things and/or high(ish) position in the league, over sitting on the bench. Any day.

I had heard there’s a chance he may leave Man City soon. Not in January though

This isn’t just a rumour I heard on an internet forum and it hasn’t even reached the papers yet, it is from a more reliable source

Make of that what you will !!!!

Not that he'd come back here, but I'd have a little smile if things didn't work out at City for him.

James Milner, so I'm told.

Gary has more talent in his weaker foot than Milner has in his entire pasty body..
Not many have Milner's industry but Gardner could well do in time. Milner is too one-paced and lacking in technical skill to be the next Gerrard or Lampard which I imagine is what he aspires to.

I know Gardner has only played at youth and reserve level but he has all the raw material to be a top class, one day world-class, player. Can't remember us ever giving a 3 year contract to an 18 year-old before and judging from his interview on Pravda the other day he comes across very well. The older brother always did aswell in fairness...Hogg and Gary also live together.

There is absolutely no chance Milner will leave any time in the next 18 months, especially to us.

We wouldn't pay £6m for him 11 years ago, so I sure as fuck hope we don't do it now!
Especially considering as Radamel Falcao Garcia went to Porto for £4m or the price of a Marlon Harewood....yes it does still hurt!

Would you swap Ashley Young for James Milner?

If Ash signs a new deal, not for me.

Obviously if it's still up in the air I'd rather have 4 years of Milner than 18 months of Ashley.

With you on this. Love Ashley but Milner offered so much more. I'd take him back too bloody right
