The thing for me is that if Ash goes then £20m will be a good price for him bearing in mind he has 18 months left, but if we want to build a side capable of challenging then we can't keep selling our best players.  So my issue would be why he wants to go as opposed to what we should or could get for him.

I'd be looking to buy a top player or two in January and then do the same early summer 2011.  If we show that bit of ambition it may make him think twice, especially if we then dangle the carrot of a nice fat new contract infront of him.  OK, if he doesn't bite then we sell him for say £10-12m, but what we'd lose in fees shoudln't overly hurt us and we have to stop this pattern of losing our best/one of our best players every summer.  Keep that up and we'll go nowhere!

I don't see why anyone would want to us to sell Ash, unless the player himself actually wants to leave. If you put players around Ashley Young that are just as talented I firmly believe his game will go up a notch or two. GH needs to find players to compliment Ash's ability, as opposed to us relying on him as much as we do.

Ash isn't willing to talk about a new deal until the summer.

If we finish 10th-15th then I think there's no way he'll sign a new deal, he'll think that it's time he had a shot somewhere 'higher'.

We'll do well to get £20m with 12 months left on his deal.

I have to say I would sell him for anything over about 20 million this Jan. His age, contract and dwindling ability to have a major bearing on a game for us count against him. Also, realistically, I would quite like to see him playing at a United or Arsenal just to see if he was up to it.

With respect, I think that a very odd viewpoint.  Why would you want to see our best / one of our best player at Manchester United or Arsenal???  Selling him in January would be utterly mad considering our current position.  Really, I jut don't get it?

The £20m isn't going to play left wing for us and which player would seriously consider coming to lower-mid table  Aston Villa who keep selling their stars to bigger clubs?  We HAVE to be a little bit more long sighted than thinking about making a profit while we can don't we?

It's a real shame, I reckon he'll be off come Summer for £12-14million.

We'll get over it, but it'll be a gutter to lose him 'cos he's one of the few who really cares for the cause.

Still, Downing on the left and Albrighton on the right with Gabby through the middle gives us a start to totally rebuild the midfield and attack from. Be it 4-4-2, 4-5-1 or 4-3-3.

IF and it's a BIG IF, Ash is sold, http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_6573076,00.html Steven Pienaar would make a good replacement.

Pienaar would be a good addition but I don't know if he has the same attributes as Ashley, it is encouraging to see us being linked with young European players with Champions League experience.

We missed a trick by not signing Ben Foster IMO, very good keeper, English and young

Foster struggles in the limelight. Good for Watford and SHA, poor for Man Yanighted and England.

Maybe we're in the middle somewhere, but still, we can get better. People only rate him 'cos he's English and 'young' (despite being 27 and a year younger than Reina and Cech).

McGregor has big game experience and plays infront of a crowd who expects every week.

I know Foster has played in a cup final and a few Champions League games, but it's different doing it with the second string when the club doesn't care that much.

I really rate McGregor. He is a good shot stopper, but is also very commanding of his area.

Plus he is 28 so is perfect for at least 6-7 years, With his experience. And no high wages

Yeah, it's a shame Ireland seems a total lost cause as

Albrighton....Ireland......Downing

              Gabby

looks well-balanced and creative to me.
