The problem's been the wages they're on even before MON left. Some of the deadwood is unmoveable because of what they're on. Hopefully the likes of Davies seeing out his contract will give GH more scope for manourvering

Leicester are loaded by the recent takeover and already seem to be constructing a premier league team down there so if they offer 3m for Davies I'd take it.

I'd also take the 20m for Young if anyone's daft enough to offer it.

Infact I'd hawk him to Man. City and see if they want to swop him for their bench warming players like Milner (tounge in cheek).

I don't like some of his antics but Ash always looks as if he's desperate to win, he was very vocal on Saturday shoting at his teammates. I think it will all depend on who we buy, i think he  loves playing for Villa and if he can see quality playerscoming in he will want to stay. I don't think we lost Barry and Milner because of the money it was because they wanted to play with better players and win things.

Young has to be realistic, if he goes to Spurs he won't be getting in ahead of Bale or Van Der Varrt.

If Bale goes, then that will become a more logical move.

Milner loves to play, he must be hurting being on the bench quite frequently if they look like they will finish in the top 4 this season.

I think Ashley Young has stagnated as a player over the last year or so. He is still a quality player but I dont think he has taken it to the next level. His set pieces and crosses have suffered where once they were superb. He is also too inclined now to play for the free kick rather than get past a player. His finishing for a player of his calibre is pretty poor. In terms of goals and assists I'm sure he will be up around 9/10 goals this season and the same number of assists but I think he is capable of far more if he cuts out the horrible excesses to his game and concentrates better. If I was his agent I would probably advise a move and United and Chelsea need widemen or consider abroad. Cant understand English players not trying out Germany, Spain, France etc.

I'm sure he could be persuaded to stay if we signed a top class centre midfielder capable of spraying the ball around and invested in a few more players. He used combine really well with Gareth Barry back in the day but unfortunately I get the feeling he isnt enamoured with Houllier and will look to leave.

Agree with most of that. Not too sure what he thinks about Houllier though. I think his issue may be more with the general direction he perceives us to be taking under Houllier than the man himself.

I don't think he will go in January but he might be off in the Summer. He's not irreplacable by any means but it still might be difficult to get that quality of replacement in if we finish in midtable.

Ashley Young has always seemed to me to be a player that's overly conscious of the fact that he's playing in front of a crowd. Like it adds quite a bit to the 'drama' of his game. If he can get his head around this and play for himself and the team rather than play up to the crowd/camera's he'd be one hell of a fucking player.

Selling Young would be madness, he's one of the few players we have who can put the shits up defenders.

As with Milner and Petrov, you'd soon notice the difference if he wasn't around.

If he goes, it seems that not much will have changed in 20 years when fans were also advocating the sale of David Platt.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll have any choice with Ashley leaving. I think he will force the issue in the summer.

Dont we already have a widening fella in Dunne?

Although in fairness, I can see how it could be useful in a keeper.

Anyone seen him play? If we can pick up a decent replacement for Friedel on the cheap it would be a great move.

can't see much about him but apparently he was under investigation for a racial slur aimed at another player :-X

looks to have a very good playing record though

I can see the justification for selling Ash in business terms, but players like him and Milner have been the best things to happen to this club for a hell of a long time. Be gutted if he goes.

It will be interesting to see what GH does when Gabby, Heskey and Ash are all available, Ash fancies himself in the hole but I'd like to see him back on the left with Gabby and Heskey up top.  I dont think Downing would be any weaker centrally than Bannan so I'd drop him inside alongside NRC, now he's back.
