i'd like to see someone brought in for centre midfield come what may. Even if petrov and NRC recover they could get crocked again with our luck and the midfield is weak anyway. Ireland well, he looks a complete lemon, sidwell - shocking waste of money, and inconsistent kids lerning their trade.  Gotta be addressed in January IMO

You're not wrong Greg, we need a midfield spoiler, who just stops the opposition in their tracks. Starts to make them think twice about coming forward!!
absolutely, we're crying out for a midfield bastard

My new favourite phrase! Well done sir!

I'd take Flamini and Muntari, both bit part players at their current employer in a heartbeat.

If we're looking to replace Brad and/or Bradley - I reckon Al-Habsi would be worth going for.

Former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady's short spell at Spartak Moscow looks set to be over with the Republic of Ireland international being lined up for a shock move to Aston Villa as Gerard Houllier's first January signing.

Here we go.

Man Utd plot £20m bid for Ashley Young

I'd be suprised if he signs a new contract so we need to decide when's best to sell him.

Certainly tempting. I don't think he'll be a villa player for too much longer, sadly, but the emergence of Albrighton and the resurgence of Downing mean that, in my opinion, we could cope without him - especially if the money is spent wisely to strengthen the team.

Sell Ash for 20 mill all day, spend that 20 mill on a proven striker.

Unless he signs a new contract, but we can't let this January window pass without him signing or selling him.

We've never spent £20m on a single player and I don't think we're about to start that's without taking into account what it would do to our wage structure.

If we keep selling our best players and if fans keep encouraging the board to do it then we'll be forever playing second fiddle.

£20m for Ashley?  I'd take it, but at the end of the season, not in January.

He'd only have 12 months left on his contract then though and I cannot see anyone paying that much.

I agree with what you are saying Chris but would the board let a major asset leave for free? Whether us fans like it or not its a balancing act between business and playing side of the club.

I think Ashley will sign a new contract, possibly be Captain and we should make all attempt to encourage him to stay.
I also think that United story is utter bollocks.
If he doesn't want to sign a new contract then we'll have to consider offers unfortunately.

I can't believe any Villa fans are welcoming the thought of him leaving though.

Why would Houllier & O'Neill be interested in exactly the same players? Mcgready, Keane, bentley? It does not make sense..
