We should go for the French full-back whose been linked with Liverpool this morning... Rod Fanni.
If only to bring the schoolboy chuckles back to Villa Park.

Oh please RANDY.... YOUNG FANNI at full-backs would be the best pairing since we had Oscar ARCE and Barrie HOLE in midfield in the 60s.
We'd sell loads of shirts if he had No.8.

and being foreign we might even get away with putting his surname before his first name on the back of the programme.

Gotta go, teacher's back.

I have said Vagner Love would be a great signing last season and he is available.  Him and Gabby up front would be a serious strike force ......

I'd have Sissoko. I see him as a bully, which is exactly what our midfield needs. We often talk in clichés about having steel in the middle of the park and so on, but this is one I think you can subscribe to.

With Delph and NRC coming back in January, we should have enough physical presence with the addition of a destroyer type. Somebody with the presence to shield the back four and enforce things while the likes of Albrighton, Young, Downing, Gabby, Wee Barry etc get on with the attacking side of things.

The United game was a glimpse of what we could do, especially in the second half, but a striker to aid Gabby would be very nice. I think, as many do, that Carew is finished, while Heskey showed two things recently. Firstly that he actually can be relied upon to contribute under Houllier and that he's as injury prone as ever. So Gabby, Heskey and a new striker should be enough up front.

The last few games show how we've been caught short in numbers and variation. Spurs are the opposite of ourselves in this department and have shown just what options can do under the right stewardship. With good players coming back and the requirement for me being a central player and a forward, I don't think we'll be too far away again.

I still think we'll finish 6th. The quality in the league isn't there, our home games in 2011 look good to me, while I see new faces coming in and old faces coming back as the catalyst we need. I don't buy into this relegation nonsense and I think we'll smash the Albion come the weekend.

To go full circle, Sissoko would be welcome- and if not him, then somebody of his ilk. And a striker too.

Aston Villa, the Everton of 2011.

Been doing a bit of research on this French full-back Rod Fanni mentioned above.

Apparently got a Brazilian style... plays anywhere across the park but best when sitting on a big fella.
Prone to allowing the winger inside too easily and tends to be unavailable on a regular basis - usually one week in four.
Very popular in the dressing room though.
Worth a stab?

We have needed a striker who can play every week and get goals for years now.

We couldn't get one under Doug as they were too expensive and it is the one position MON never got quite right.

In truth, he hasn't had a great record with buying strikers over his managerial career - IMO a symptom of his cautious transfer strategy. At Leicester, Celtic, and Villa he inherited his most successful forwards in Heskey, Larsson, and Agbonlahor. He also inherited others such as Joachim, Roberts, Robins, Viduka, Johnson, Baros, and Angel. His better buys have been proven but over-the-hill players; Cottee and Claridge at Leicester, Sutton and Hartson at Celtic, Carew and Heskey at Villa. The younger strikers that he has bought have been people like Fenton and Harewood.

At Villa, why was he comfortable with spending £10M on defenders and midfielders (Davies, Young, Downing), but not on a striker. Did he think that we didn't need one? Was it Clough's policy of buying players who would feel that joining the club was a step-up? or in the case of the older players, a valued opportunity to extend their careers at the top?

Would he cope with the Prem though? New surroundings and all that. Plus he'll probably command a heft fee. And from when iv seen him he's been pretty lazy...

I don't think we should be spunking too much on a full back

Hopefully he wouldn't be a useless c**t like our current left back.

Aston Villa and Tottenham are battling to secure the signature of Real Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis.

Ramis, 26, was strongly linked with a move to Celtic during the summer, but the move never materialised and he is now set for a £4m move to the Premier League next month.

The Spanish defender has been outstanding for Real Mallorca in La Liga this season and both Gerard Houllier and Harry Redknapp are keen to strengthen their defence in the January transfer window.

Reports in Spain suggest that both Aston Villa and Tottenham have made contact with Real Mallorca and are hoping to win the race to clinch his signature in the New Year.

Aston Villa interest in Cittadella goalkeeper Manolo Gabbiadini has kicked Juventus into action.

Villa are weighing up a bid for the 19 year-old keeper, whose contract is co-owned by Cittadella and Atalanta.

Juve GM Beppe Marotta is also a huge fan of Gabbiadini and anxious about keeping him in Italy.

It's understood Villa aren't the only English club to be in contact with Cittadella for information on the youngster.
