He always the had potential to be a very good defensive midfielder. When he left Liverpool he was still very raw and I haven't had much opportunity to see him play since.

I would rather try and get somebody like M'Vila but if Sissoko has improved since his Liverpool days he could be a very useful addition. Christ knows we could use him right now.
Why would Juve want to get rid though?

Maybe they're a bit racist.

I haven't seen Sissoko play much since left Liverpool, but my memories of him are that he's an athletic midfielder, lots of drive and energy, not so much finesse. Yes, similar to Reo-Coker but a class above. Italian football may well have helped him refine his passing, though I don't he was a bad passer of the ball at Liverpool, perhaps a bit limited.

What would the point be? Well, I'd rather have him in our midfield over Hogg. Or Clark, who I'd prefer to be playing at CB. Or Sidwell. And Sissoko's still just 25/26, I believe.

I love that we can be basically down to reserve midfielders - best we can hope for on Saturday is Hogg-Bannan in centre midfield - and yet still turn our noses up at the prospect of signing Sissoko in January.

Fuckin Sissoko, we may aswell play Osbourne.

Also why would he leave Juve for a team that will be in the relegation zone in january?

Make your mind up. He's not good enough for us or he's too good for us?

I have made my mind up, he's Osbourne's long lost brother, but at the same time if you're at Juventus you wouldn't leave for a team in the relegation zone with a shit manager.

We're not going to attract any quality players when we're in a relegation battle january.

I take it all back, I'd forgotten about Osbourne. Yes, let's play him instead.

Yes, let's ignore the fact he's played for three of the biggest clubs in the world, won silverware and is exactly the type of player we need. Let's play somebody who cant even get in a midfield so ravaged with injuries that defenders, teenagers and old out of contract players are being drafted in instead.
Oh yes, and he's his brother because he's black and tall.

Nice one.

I have made my mind up,

You've also made mine up for me.

I hope we sign him.

Not sure it would make a great deal of sense to give Houllier a big budget following recent events.

Highly unlikely we'll push for CL or even Europe this season but the squad he has -when everyone returns- should be plenty good enough to stay up. If we're involved in the relegation battle towards the end of the season -14/15 or lower he should be moved on at the end of the campaign.

If we have a strong second half to the season and actually beat some half decent sides (rather than just content ourselves with talking a good game and playing non threatening possession football) he'll have enhanced his position and should be backed accordingly.

Giving large sums to a manager who might not be around in six months (possibly even less) could be ruinous.

There are enough deals around at the moment -such as Wheater who is soon out of contract and will be available for a knockdown fee- and Lescott on loan who could improve on what we've got. Playing Carlos Cuellar might also help.

Perhaps back him for a DM too in Jan but that's about it. He judgement calls so far re team selection (and in other areas) have been shite -even allowing for injuries. And his transfer record hasn't exactly been impeccable in the past.

I seem to remember at the start of the summer Martin Jol was fighting tooth & nail to stop the Ajax board from selling some of their better players. Wonder if, now he's gone, it would be a good time to try and bid for some of them, Stekelenburg, Van der Wiel and Demy de Zeeuw are just a few who could easily be seen as better than we already have! Suarez would also, but I think he is probably beyond our budget!
Ajax are already out of the CL and could possibly not qualify for the Europa, depending on ressults tonight. Struggling in their domestic league too, so maybe could do with an injection of money!

edit: Also, Siem De Jong, their attacking midfielder would be a great addition, especially if Ireland is looking to 'end his hell' this January!

I'd guess that if Suarez is beyond us so will Stekelenburg and Wiel. Wasn't Weil linked with a £12m move to Bayern last summer? That position isn't a priority for us especially at that price.

Is the young Sissoko at Toulouse a relation of Mommo, and if so can we mix them up at the airport and have the younger version.

That Benzema chap looked special tonight for some shit spanish side.

In all seriousness, a tough midfield man, a centre half, a left back and a keeper are all musts in Jan for me.

No they're not related, but I am hoping that a few of the links over the past few weeks maybe mistaken identity. Moussa Sissoko would be a great signing, can tackle, pass and score! Also hoping that it's Papiss Demba Cisse from Frieburg and not Dribble from Panathinaikos. Taye Taiwo, the Marseille left back is out of contract in the summer, would be a great shout for the LB spot, although I've read there are a few big clubs circling already!

I could play left back with more guts and brain than Warnock, and I am a short podgy fella with a swinger for a left foot, so if the Audi TT you mention above is gettable we should be in there like a shot.

Young to Liverpool rumoured again. I wonder what it would take fee wise to get him. I wonder what swap wise would be good for us either with them or Spurs. Spurs is obvious with Keane, Bentley, Krancjar, Jenas, Naughton and Walker all players that are not in their first team plans and would do us good suad wise in the short term. Liverpool - Babbel maybe.... beyond which I am struggling to see anything much. If Young is going to go, we have to maximise the return and minimise the blow. Get Bentley in Blackburn form and he is as useful as Ash is at the moment.

If we can suppliment funds with sales of Ireland and Davies for 5 million or so each, then at least Houllier may stand a chance of getting 4-5 of his own in. If we can keep hold of Young (though I think Jan is the time to sell for the biggest money and with where his contract is) then loaning people might be a decent route too.
