If we were looking to replace Brad senior in the next year, Shay Given is the obvious target. He's just a wonderful keeper and Mancini is mad to have him as second choise in my view.

I would think Shay Given would seem the obvious choice if available.

I'm pretty sure he will be leaving them in January. He won't stick around to be Hart's replacement.

I do think he is rightly behind Hart though.

I don't see us ditching Brad any earlier than Jan so I don't think Given will change Citeh's bench for ours. Next place he goes he'll want guaranteed first team football.

If I was a betting man I'd say Celtic. I know they've said at the moment they can't afford his wages but they said the same about Keane last year.

If we sign Given he would rightly (in my opinion) be number one immediately.

Absolutely. Friedel could manage for another half season but it's a case of moving for a good player when available. Given will go in January, I'm certain.

If we do go for a keeper in Jan, I could see it being someone like Kirkland on a short term deal.

Wouldn't walk straight into the first team but would push Brad Jnr for a starting place if the latter continues to look sketchy.

There could be a few decent deals around in Jan. David Wheater is out of contract at the end of the season and with Boro unlikely to go up this year they might cash in in Jan. Lescott has also come out and said he could be away in Jan, though talk is any initial move will be a loan.

I'd be happy enough with both of those on board, before we turn our attention to further up the pitch.

Replace Friedel with Given or McGregor.

Sell Young and sign N'Zogbia.

Sign a left back.

Sign a striker, not Keane who we should have signed at least 5 years ago and not bloody Piquionne.

Job's a good 'un.

Except that doesn't help any of our current major issues, top of the list being the appalling lack of strength in the centre of midfield; even given the January return of Reo-Coker, with Delph and Petrov not far behind, I'd still want to see a midfielder in.

I like N'Zogbia but whereas Young can play left, right, and off the striker, he can really only play on the left. So that's a problem there, incorporating him and Downing.

You're bang on about Keane.

We could worse than do a bit of shopping at Man City.
Their player turnover will be ridiculous year on year.

I'd sell Carew, Sidwell and Beye and go after the likes of Given, Lescott, Adebayor, M'Vila, Clyne and maybe Bendtner.

If some have to be loans with a view to buy, so be it.

On the current form of the last two we signed from them what could possibly go wrong?

The BBC gossip column is reporting that Villa (and others) are after Palace right back Clyne and Eng U21 keeper Jason Steele.  Unfortunately - as I think they're both good prospects - this is from the Mirror.

A young prospect we do not appear to be linked with is Connor Wickham.  I'd like to see us do a deal here maybe sending The Fonz there on loan as part of the deal.  I understand that he is a lanky but skillful striker so could be the long term replacement for Heskey/Carew.
