Bosnian striker

Not been updated much has it? Under news he's linked with a move to Pompey to replace Defoe.

Before he was this big star and target for the bigger richer clubs he was gettable for clubs even below our level. Christ we could have had him for a pittance a few years before that when Wolfsburg first signed him. What if we had scouted him and signed him? That shows the importance of good scouting for me.

Keane? Really? Good god! The bloke has been truly hopeless for the last couple of years and based on his recent performances for Spurs he is totally shot. We really don't need that and it would be a dreadful signing. I don't expect us to sign a big reputation striker with the world at his feet but there is a happy medium between a totally shot Keane and that.

Rosicky: Too injury prone and not exactly the type of player we need. We already have a surfeit of attacking midfield players and another is the last thing we need.

N'Zogbia: Very good young player but do we really need another winger? He'd want first team football and even if we sell Ashley we are not going to and should not guarantee that to him. If Ash goes we'll need another wide player but I'm not sure he is the man for the job for those reasons.

Lescott: I'm not a big fan but he can fill in at left back and centre half probably better than Dunne and Warnock. I don't quite think he's the answer though. Our problems at centre back are more to do with getting Collins back in form and selecting Cuellar who are both for me better defenders at the moment. If we are to sign someone it will be as backup and not a £10m first choice.

Cuellar and Lescott would look a far more secure defence than Lescott and Collins.

I could live with:

------------L.Young-------Cuellar-------Collins----------Lescott---------

though.

Lescott would be a solid signing and I think he's jump at the chance of regular football again. He's a solid PL defender, and he'd be the attacking threat in set piece situations that we've missed hugely since Laursen departed.

I could live with Lescott, mainly because we need a back up LB and he'd provide instant solidity at CB.  If it's true that he is a villa fan then that just adds to the squad's solidarity.

Take Lescott on loan for the rest of the season and send Clark out on loan to a club where he will play every week.  Clarks absence in midfield will not be missed because NRC/Petrov will be back plus I hope we prioritise the signing of a DMC.

Anyone follow German football? Hoffenheim had a couple of good attacking players the year they got promoted, one the Bosnian Ibisevic scored quite a few and had a growing reputation as a talented player, got a record of just over a goal every 3 games for Hoffenheim according to wiki. He's over 6ft so could replace Carew and shouldn't be out of our league.

Regardless of what you think, MON's inferior squad came 6th for 3 seasons in a row, never lost to Spuds, or Ure in the Lge last year, and only lost x2 to the teams who finished in the top 4 last year.

MONs team played a certain way, and his teams were organized that way, thats why they never lost a great deal, GH plays a more expansive game, and that exposes the defence more.Better football, atm poorer results.

I would be very happy with N'Zogbia, with or without AYoung going.

So after MON 'great' tenure as manger what have we got?

Fuck all. We have won nothing, got nowhere in Europe, have a shite squad and the football was shite.

And with regards to not loosing to spurs, we were embarrassed home and away last season by them and only this season were badly affected by heskey's injury.

So can we
Please please stop the Oneil loving, he is a ranker who never cared about the club.

Maybe not bringing MON up every time we lose a game would help.

We didn't have relegation 6 pointers against the Baggies under MON and nor did we go into every game expecting to lose.  I know we have injuries but other than NRC and Petrov who would get into our team ahead of the players we had on Weds night?  Heskey.  Hmmm.  MON did very well with these same players but it seems nobody will accept that because they are still grinding their axes.  The table says it all at the minute and who is gonna come and play for Mr charisma Gerard Houllier and his bottom half club?

Lets see what the table says at the end of the season and the end of next season.

Our match against the Boggies is by no means a relegation six pointer as neither of the teams are actually that involved in the relegation battle. They are 5 points out of it and we are 3. It is more an upper level of the bottom 10 six pointer. If we were playing Wigan or maybe even Fulham it might be relegation six pointer. However, no one really calls them relegation six pointers in this half of the season anyway.

Do you seriously expect the table is going to stay the same? Us and Everton battling relegation, Blackpool and Boggies in midtable and Bolton pushing for the CL?

Everton no, us yes.  Under Gh I expect to stay up but with 42 points or so which means a battle to stay up, albeit a successful one.  Then next season I expect more players the wrong side of 30 to join and for us to sell Ashley Young and finish bottom half again.  I never felt that bad under MON is all I am saying.

I'd like us to take a look at the following:

McGregor, Al-Habsi
Lescott, Agger, Bosingwa, Figueroa
Makoun, M'Vila, Rosicky, N'Zogbia,
Hoarau, Elmander

Are all realistic for us (I think). Most wouldn't command a big fee (N'Zogbia and M'Vila aside I think).

Al Habsi is a very underrated 'keeper. I remember a few years back watching him play for Bolton against Bayern Munich. Surprised he hadn't managed to get first team football before being moved on to Wigan on loan.

Yeah he's a very good shot stopper, not sure what he's like at the rest of his game but one I'd like us to take a look at. Would be cheap and on relatively small wages I reckon.

Cheer up holteender.  You're depressed about stuff that hasn't even happened.
There is a reasonable chance that we will actually come out of all this in a better state than we entered it.

Next year, the squad will have a full/coordinated pre-season with the manager.  Our younger players will have the benefit of playing 10-20 games, experience that they would not have if the current injury crisis had not materialised.  Plus hopefully some new signings.

Are people not being a bit pre-mature writing off Dunne and Collins?

They were 2 of the best Centre-Halves in the PL last season. YEs, they have been poor this season, but with the amount of injuries, changes to midfield in front of them, young players coming in and fitness problems, do they not have enough credit in the bank from last year for us to keep faith with them and hope they will rediscover their form?
