Clampy, considering the money he spent did o neill rally leave that good a squad behind? How many of our players would get into a top 5 side at the moment- James milner was the engine behind our team and we are missing him far more than we are missing o neill!

Houllier will get it right and take us further than o neill did but he will need time and patience to build his squad.

He could have spent better in regards to value for money for certain players, but if all the players are fit, then yes, it's a decent squad. A lot of managers would have been happy to inhereit a squad like that. Dunne and Collins were considered excellent signings last season. Of course GH will want to bring in his own players, that's understandable.

As for Milner, i agree, he's a big loss, but he wanted to move on. There's not a lot you can do when that happens.

Regardless of what you think, MON's inferior squad came 6th for 3 seasons in a row, never lost to Spuds, or Ure in the Lge last year, and only lost x2 to the teams who finished in the top 4 last year.

MONs team played a certain way, and his teams were organized that way, thats why they never lost a great deal, GH plays a more expansive game, and that exposes the defence more.Better football, atm poorer results.

I would be very happy with N'Zogbia, with or without AYoung going.

So after MON 'great' tenure as manger what have we got?

Fuck all. We have won nothing, got nowhere in Europe, have a shite squad and the football was shite.

And with regards to not loosing to spurs, we were embarrassed home and away last season by them and only this season were badly affected by heskey's injury.

So can we

In previous seasons you felt confident that the defence would hold up when it came under pressure, this cannot be said anymore. As has been said it's the more experienced players that are letting us down at the moment, injuries to Petrov and NRC has added to this but when they return it's not going to stop the center halves making mistakes. I wonder how much Lescott would cost as it looks like GH isn't impressed with Cuellar.

Maybe not bringing MON up every time we lose a game would help.

Agger is potentially available. Left footed, ball playing. He'd be absolutely perfect for us.

McGregor
Young - Cuellar - Agger - Warnock
Clark
Albrighton - Rosicky - Bannan - Young
Gabby

Would be nice.

Wouldn't Clark be a younger version of Agger?, also instead of spending our money on more attacking midfielders (Rosicky) I think we would be better served getting a beast of a defensive midfield player that will make us tougher to play through.

I'm not convinced on Clark's good enough in the air or physical enough to play centre half. He reads the game wall and has decent distribution so I could see him playing holding mid for the forseeable (and being used as cover at the back), perhaps until he develops physically a bit more.

Don't see it mentioned elsewhere (apologies if it has) but Lescott has come out and said that he might need to leave Man City as early as Jan - as he wants first team football.

Talk is about a loan initially but Citeh have come out and said they won't be subsidising the wages.

That would definitely be one to look at. Even on a short-term basis he'd provide a bit of legs and athleticism to our increasingly sluggish backline. If we were at all able to secure him on a longterm deal even better.

Shouldn't hinder Clark's progress either as Lescott can play left back too. Some of his best for for Everton was in that position.

He also used to score a fair few goals for them from set pieces, in two seasons he scored near enough the same amount as Laursen.

I heard a story a few months ago that Ian Taylor had told MON that he could get Lescott to Villa and that MON wasn't interested. I didn't pay it much heed as, as far as I can tell, Taylor isn't his agent.

I would say don't buy any city players because they won't be happy. But because he is a villa fan it might work.

Lescott would be ideal, especially has he can play left back as well. I can't see Man City letting him go until the summer at least anyway.

Lescott needs to get his career on track, on form he's an England player. I'd definitely take a look at him.

I'd love us to sign Lescott. Great player when on form and playing regularly. Davies out, Lescott in.
