would like us to sign falco from porto
scores hat trick last night in europa cup against rapid vienna

should have signed him 18 mths ago , but shit, MON was manager

That'd be 3 top 6 finishes, 6 straight wins over the Blues, 3 successive forays into Europe and 2 trips to Wembley MON?

I'd much rather lose to Blues and be 15th in the Prem with no chance any of the above happening.......err..

And, had he been even just very slightly more adventurous (both with his selection of youth and his view on non-UK footballers), he could have been "3 top 4 finishes, 6 straight wins over the Blues, 3 successive forays into Europe* and 2 wins at Wembley MON", his Villa career still intact and a wage-bill that wasn't questioned.

*Not sure where you got this bit from though.

The bigger concern that I'd have is -as someone mentioned earlier in the thread- how attractive an option are we to good players at present?

Will they think that our current position is just temporary and we'll be pushing for Europe again by the end of the season?

Or will the feeling be out there that we're on the crest of a slump and we're one destination to avoid.

There was an article today saying quite a few senior players are already against GH due to the extra training and injuries that have stemmed from it. Came from one of the less reliable papers so could be filed under complete bollocks. But players do talk to  players at other clubs and if the Bush Telegraph is carrying the message that we're in a mess it could obviously impact on who we attract.

I could see us going for someone like David Wheater -who isn't actually a bad player- and unfortunately someone like Piquionne. Rather than some of the other more fanciful names touted.

3 successive forays into Europe is based on us getting into Europe 3 times in a row.

Technically no as our three forays included two exits at the qualifying stage which means we didn't actually get into Europe.

Vienna is in Europe as far as I remember and we won't get another chance to exact revenge any time in the near future.  We will not do as well under GH as we did under MON, I am willing to bet anyone, anything on that and it will be very difficult to attract players of any real quality because of this.  We DID qualify for Europe 3 times in a row but were knocked out in the preliminary stage.  Let's not split hairs over that.

If only he hadn't walked out on us at the worst possible moment, dropping us directly into the shit, shit which we're yet to climb out of.

You'd think we'd sacked him to hear some people talk.

so 5 minutes into his time with us, no pre-season, so transfer opportunity you've written off a man who's won things pretty much wherever he's been? I was a MON supporter for most of his time with us, but even I wouldn't be so bold to claim that.

What's this 'shit' we're having to climb out of that is MON's fault? The main reason why we're having such a poor season so far is because we have a ridiculous injury list.

And the fact we spent the first several weeks of the season without a manager, then found one and had to undergo the inevitable bedding in period was of absolutely no influence?

Or the fact we'd just undergone his traditional extended summer prior to waking up and realise the transfer window was open when he fucked  off?

If you don't think a manager walking out five days before the start of the season is likely to be a major contributing factor to a poor start, then you're living in cloud cuckoo land.

Of course MON walking out when he did has played a part in our poor season so far, that's fairly obvious, but we can't keep laying the blame totally at his door. The club took an awfully long time to appoint GH. The injury list is probably the worst i've ever known it at this club, GH has not been able to pick the same team twice, and our defence is not a patch on last season's. All contributing factors to why we're having a tough time of it.

I'm not laying the blame totally at his door.

The injury crisis is terrible, you're right, and certain players have really let us down. The point i was making was that if you are going to compare what we are doing this season with what we did last season and the season before in an unfavourable light - as Holteenderinthesky did, you can not ignore that the manager of previous seasons leaving in the manner he did, when he did, is a major contributing factor to what has happened thus far this season.

The shit we are having to climb out of is,

1. Inadequate, over paid squad

2. Not time to buy new players

3. Totally inexperienced youth, because they have never been given even a chance, meaning we are blooding our youngsters all at once.

So this is the shit we are trying to climb out of all because of Mr Oneil.

Of course MON's timing was horrendous, i was as shocked as anybody, but he still left behind a decent enough squad for GH to work with until January. It's just a shame that's he's not been able to pick his strongest side since he's been here.
