Axel Witsel just had a storming game for Standard, ran the midfield and scored two goals in the process! Would love to see him in our midfield alongside Clark or Delph.

Did he manage to kill anybody in this game?!

Axel did what can only be described as the worst challenge I've ever seen, what makes it worse he did it on purpose as revenge.

Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has not ruled out a move for 35-year-old midfielder Juninho. The Brazilian, who played under Houllier at Lyon, is currently at Al-Gharafa in Qatar.

Hope not, Pires is understandable but to get another geriatric is panic.

So did Roy Keane, when he was older and wiser than Witsel, he was still a brilliant football who would have been welcome in our midfield.

Have you seen the Witsel challenge?

Roy keane wasnone of the best midfielders in the world, Axel Witsel is average.

I wonder if we could do a swap with Ireland and Dempsey at Fulham, think he would be a cracking signing.

WE clearly could do with a keeper, but more worrying I think we could do with 3 players in the defence. Dunne, Warnock and Luke Young have been poor this season, and I can see them all being replaced by this time next year. A lot of talk of Wheater for a million. Davies is doing ok at Leicester too, so might be worth giving some games too when he is back.

McGregor is a decent keeper. I'm not totally sure if he is better than Craig Gordon or vice versa. His only flaw is that he doesn't really command his area as well as he could.

I think we should give Lichaj a go before we start looking for a new right back. Luke Young is a reasonable enough player but he's getting on a bit. Agree with the above on Davies. If he can get some confidence he may be a reasonable enough player though I still have my doubts over him.

I don't mind McGregor, or Gordon tbh, but i've always liked the Bpool keeper whenever i've seen him.

Always like Kirkland as well, not rated for some reason.Frei, is a very good  goalie though.

Would prefer M'Vila to Wietsel tbh, watched him against England, and he is just the kind of player we are missng atm.Onohua available for £4mas well, must be worth a shout as well.

Yeah seen the challenge plenty of times, doesn't get any better! But it's in the past, I don't think you can tarnish the lads entire career because of it. Dion Dublin wasn't considered to be an outwardly violent player, but he still stuck the nut on Robbie Savages head.
He is also far from average, he has all the attributes and is already showing himself to be an extemely good box to box midfielder. I think Witsel is a different type of CM to M'Vila, they would make a brillaint pairing in any midfield. Have to agree with BLF though, if it was a choice between both I'd probably go with M'Vila too, he and Delph would work extremely well IMO.

Chronic injury problems but when fit he's decent.  Shame to see him second choice at a club like Wigan. Still pretty young-ish for a keeper.

GH spent big darts on him at Liverpool so you never know.  Could be a decent choice as backup. But then we'd most likely need backup for the backup too.

Matt Gilks does strike me as a decent keeper (Another Scotland one too just behind McGregor and Gordon in the pecking order). Best thing about him is that he is (I think) on a free in the summer.

I guess you mean Frey at Fiorentina? He is keeping Boruc out of the team there at the moment. Don't know how they are doing or if he'd see us as a step up.
