Makoun is likely to be available for £5m which seems good for a player that cost them 14.

I confess I know nothing about Makoun so I'm not in a position to rate him (good, bad or otherwise), but do you know why his value has dropped so much?  I also read a throw away comment in a newspaper that he was not a favourite with the Lyon crowd.

Is he approaching the end of his contract or something?

Wasn't he originally lined up for a move to Turkey which stalled, so Bruce nicked in and got him?  However it happened, cracking player, with just as much potential as Bent when he is settled in properly.  Exactly the sort of player we should have gone for, but too late now.

well he's scored six for Sunderland so far which would suggest he's had more than just two or three decent games.

I don't think he's been playing much since he signed.

A Sunderland fan I know said that he's a bit of a loose cannon and doesn't seem to play to instructions, very talented but not much of a team player at the moment.

Wasn't the fee paid for him more than £10m, so it was quite a big risk for Bruce to sign him. Has been decent so far but I'm with Richard, one swallow doesn't make a summer. I suppose it's a case of how he playes with Bent when he gets back from injury.
