Work rate wise I don't think I have seen many better forwards than Elmander. Does not score enough though.

Their right midfielder Lee looks quite handy too.  Tidy touch and rarely gives the ball away.
Not sure he'd be any use to us though as Albrighton looks the real deal.

Houllier wants a new team.

OUT LIST
1. Carew
2. Sidwell
3. Reo Coker
4. Petrov
5. Beye/Luke Young
6. Davies

IN LIST
1. Striker (Not really sure who) Santa Cruz?? Horaou?? Gomis??
2. Lescott/Sakho
3. Yann M'Vila/ Sissoko/ Matuidi

Midfield
I really hope that Houllier is sick of the midfield trio of petrov coker and sidwell. yes they have good attributes but they are just too average for most of the games. With Bannan, ireland, Clark, delph and one really combative midfielder then the central midfield looks very strong.

Defence
Lescott/Sakho can play centre back and left back so ideal backup or replacement for warnock.
Lichaj should come through next season and we should keep hold of Cuellar.

Forwards
I think the Fonz needs to go on loan next season. Heskey and Gabby obviously wont be enough so Houllier needs to make a good signing most probably in January.
Downing/Ashley Young/Albrighton would be the wingers.
However the biggest question is would Lerner cash in on Ashely. If so then Houllier will have to use the funds to make a signing for one more winger.

Milners funds and the money saved during the summer with the release of players like shorey and harewood there should be enough funds to make the 3 signings by January. And with the gradual shipping out of the 6 players through Jan and next summer there should be easily a net saving.

Ashkar, I don't think Houllier is 'sick of' Petrov and NRC, given his revitalising of both of them and regret at their injuries.

I'm not sure he has revitalised either of them.  They have both played as they always have.  In NRC's case he is just getting a game these days, and has shown us what he is good at, but he hasn't improved as a player.

Well, NRC may or may not have improved as a player (although a boost in confidence always helps), but he's certainly been hugely helped by GH's style of football. He is good at winning the ball, playing the simple pass and helping things tick over in the midfield, but in MON's 4-4-2 he never had the short-ball option. With more players around him wanting the ball, he can concentrate on what he does best.

With Petrov, it's frustrating because he really showed signs of a revival in form against Chelsea (he was as fit as any player on the pitch that day), and then he goes and gets injured at Sunderland.

Bolton striker Johan Elmander is being chased by Turkish club Fenerbahce who are set to put in a £3m bid for the Swede in the January transfer window.

I'd get him for £3m. A hard working version of Carew.

I dont know Mark, I'd steer clear of a striker without a good scoring record now.
I'd be looking for a prolific version of Carew. If one exists.
We need somebody who either scores a lot or creates a lot.

Elmander does sound like a wizard though.

Thats strange, didn't they buy him for about £10m? His form has been quite decent whenever I've seen him, certainly nothing to justify such a huge drop in value.

It's because he can have a free at the end of the season, I guess £3m is better for them than nothing although I suspect the fee would be a bit higher than that.

It seems daft to sign a player from abroad on such a short contract for such a fee, he takes a year to settle in, gives you a decent season and then leaves for nothing.

True.
If we still want a hefty striker in the box in the Carew mould, he'd certainly fit the bill, unlike Carew he works his bollocks off as well.
He's not prolific, but I think he'd work really well with Gabby.

I think we have to wait and see how Gabby plays in the new system, with Hou as the manager , before deciding how much we need to spend on a striker.

Personally i would let Carew and Heskey go, and use the Milner money, and the wages saved, to get a good up and coming striker.

We have Fonz, and Weimann coming through, and tbh , i think both players wil make it.

Elmander is prob a better bet than Doyle, a similar kind of player and half the price.I think Klasnic at Bburn will turn out to be a very good player as well.

I think you mean Kallinic (Klasnic plays for Bolton), and I agree.

Kalinic is a really good player, actually. Slaven Bilic went so far as to call him "the future of Croatian football", which, though hyperbole, is some praise. He deserves a better outlet for his talents than Allardyce's vomit-worthy football.
