Players I'd be looking at if I was GH are:

Joleon Lescott
Jordan Henderson
Hugo Rodallega
Dario Srna
Charles N'Zogbia
Scott Parker.

I don't really expect any of them to sign during Jan though.

All but one are English based. I thought we were supposed to be getting cheaper better deals abroad.

Lescott could be a good signing for someone - he isnt worth the silly money City paid but centre half is not an area we need to strengthen. Plus we already have a younger left sided central defender comfortable on the ball on our books.
Henderson will be looking for the Champs Lg clubs. Thought he was outplayed by Reo Coker and whisper it Sidwell a couple of weeks ago. Has the makings of a fine player alright.
I like Rodallega but Gabby has a better scoring record.
Srna is 28 and already plays in the Champions League. Are we willing to spend a year waiting for him to bed in?
Nzogbia is gettable and a cracking player. Diabolical attitude though and do we need to strengthen out wide?
Scott Parker is 30 and frankly one of the most overrated players in the EPL. Injury prone too. The last thing we need is another 30+ player on big wages, declining as a force.

I'll say it till I'm blue in the face - Gokhan Inler the baldy Switz midfielder should be targeted.

St.Ledger is a non story. He has done well for Ireland but if Glasgow Celtic and Middlesboro are passing on him then we should too. Clark will soon take his international place too.

From BBC Gossip/Daily Heil

Aston Villa are ready to rival Liverpool in a bid for Preston's £4m-rated defender Sean St Ledger.

I'm pretty sure we're well enough stocked in the centre of defence.

Also, isn't he the Villa fan who wanted to score the goal that stopped Blues coming up a couple of years ago?

I may be biased as he plays for Ireland, but I've always thought St Ledger was a pretty decent defender.  Pretty pointless for us right now though!

Joey Barton

Although I didn't agree with you on parts, you were making some very good, logical and balanced arguments.  The above part is where you then lost all credibility.

Not exactly an improvement.

Like Warnock he is depressingly average.

Owen would be a good signing for Villa as long as he stays fit.

I think it would be possible to bring him in from Old Trafford as Ferguson seems to be blooding youngsters in the Premier League and in Europe which does not leave much room for Owen.

When Owen has played this season he has scored goals so Houllier should certainly consider trying to bring in the striker who he worked with at Liverpool.

Henderson at Sunderland is a good shout. I like Cattermole too, but unfortunately, he doesn't seem to be learning any lessons and maturing with age - still can't control his tackling. Shame, because he's actually a very dynamic, influential midfielder if he could stamp out the reckless challenges.

Owen would be a good signing for Villa as long as he stays fit.
And John Carew would be good if he magically turned into David Villa.

But neither of the above two things are ever likely to happen.

I was here first.

Erm, I think not my similarly monikered friend. You're a veritable newbie compared to me. I outrank you by a full year.

OK, so I did change my username 12 months ago but that's not the point.

Which he won't, so he wouldn't be.

Nah, Carew would only end up shagging poor Bridgey's missus.

Surely we don't need another 30+ player.
