A bit of an oxymoron but I think our current weakness is actually a bit of a plus point for Villa.
The fact that problems are so obvious makes is relatively easy to fix.  Everyone of us can see that we need a new CM and Striker.

Buy one of each and hey presto we should be a lot better team.

Watching the Newcastle v Wham match.  Carroll looks a good player and the type of forward we need.

It's a shame that he is clearly barking mad.

I'm still keen on that Elmander at Bolton, think he could be an injury free Carew type.

  Prefer Doyle to Elmender tbh.

Can see us going for Doyle.

Elmander and Doyle would provide a sub-Heskey solution to our goal drought.

Look at their goal records.

After watching the last 2 games, we just need someone who is relaxed in front of goal a la Gary Shaw if you like.Does'nt need to be quick, but good in front of goal.Heskey is not that good in front tbh, Gabby could be.

Out of the players we could attract i think Doyle might be the best option.

I'm 97% sure that Doyle is not the answer to any question that Houllier should be asking.

Heskey is absolutely fine as the 'hold the ball up and bring others into play' striker. Now we need the 'capable of scoring lots of goals' striker. Which Doyle demonstrably isn't.

Not as bad but along the Joey Barton lines of nowhere near our club.

Carroll a yr ago would have been a good shout , now though his price will have trebled. Phil Thompson was saying on sky michael owen would be the answer up front as he and heskey play so well together.

Given thommos friendship with GED I think owen may well be on the radar, I still think we would need another striker as well and a quality midfielder.

From the beeb. Never heard of him.

Aston Villa and Sunderland are both competing for Argentine striker Pablo Andres Gonzalez who has been in outstanding form this season for Italian Serie B side Novara.

I think we should look for already made partnership for new addition. ie 2 strikers from same club / national team. As I don't think one striker addition is enough. Sell / release Carew, loan Nathan out for rest of season and buy 2 strikers to compete with Heskey and Agbonlahor.

That would be lovely but in reality, unlikely.  What club in their right mind would sell both of their starting strikers?  And to buy the first choice pairing from a decent national side would cost a small fortune.

I agree about sending Delf out on loan though.  There's no point having him on the bench if he's only going to get 5 mins on the pitch half a dozen times a season.  As much as a priority a striker and midfielder is, I think we'll be forced into replacing Young next year.

We'll end up with Owen plus a midfielder I reckon
