Houllier will raid the French Ligue without doubt.
However he will have to balance the wages, so obviously players will have to leave

OUT

CAREW - Ideal replacement will be Hoarau

Sidwell - either Yann M'Vila or Blaise Matuidi

Petrov  - Moussa Sissoko

Habib Beye - with Young, Lichaj and Cuellar, reckon there is no need for strenghting

Davies - Mamadou Sakho (can play left back and centre back)

Also the club has saved money in releasing shorey, harewood and bouma for which no replacements wernt bought. Not to forget the milners money in the summer which wasn't spent.

Wouldn't grumble at any of those players, although you can tell Sissoko is going to fetch top dollar if and when he does move. Toulouse put a £25m price tag on his head this summer to ward off suitors. There are some really good up and coming DCM being produced in France at the moment, hopefully Houllier has been watching their progress over the last few years and knows who and where to pick up the next Viera etc..

M'bia at Marseille could be a good shout, still only 24. Alou Diarra at Bordeaux is a bit older but still a decent option.

I agree though, hopefully one of the benefits of having Houllier will be we get in at the ground floor and snap those type of players up early in their careers.

Pires claims he would run to Aston Villa if given the offer!!

hmmmm might be worth a gamble for the short term and might be a positive influence on players like ashley young and albrighton.

He can't run anymore, but I suppose as an impact sub might have some left to offer. Was a class player, and you never lose ability.

Where was this? In print or as a pundit?
Would be an interesting option on a short-term deal but I'd say we're covered for wide players.

Unless GH sees something he doesn't like in our current lot and is looking to offload one or two.

I think Pires would be a bit embrarrasing myself, Something we would take the piss out of the Blues for.

If he was 10 years younger maybe ;)

Pires scored one of the best opposition goals at VP I've seen - ten odd years ago

Let hope Pires want a coaching job rather a playing role.

Does anybody know if we have a sell on clause for Cahill? Thought it was 25% when the deal went thru to Bolton.

Goal.com
Quote
Pires, 37, is eager to extend his playing career and feels he still has a lot to offer to the right club, although the French midfielder would preferably favour a move to a London club.

Pires told L'Equipe Mag: "I spent six beautiful years at Arsenal. London became my home and I knew I would come back.

"Arsenal have offered me the opportunity to train and I can't thank Arsene Wenger enough."

However, the former Gunner has admitted the clock is against him and added that if he is without a new club in January then he will retire from the game.

Yet Pires has opted to battle against that happening by keeping his options open by not limiting himself to a move to a Premier League club. This will put Championship leaders Queens Park Rangers on alert after the Frenchman declared himself open to a move there.

"Even for a club like Birmingham or Stoke City? Of course, if I have an opportunity from Aston Villa, I will rush," he added.

"But I will analyse any proposition. I don't want to go anywhere and fight every weekend for salvation.

"QPR? I would be attracted. I am not necessarily looking for a six-month contract. I could imagine myself playing much longer.

"I will give myself until January 31. If at the end of the winter transfer market I have not found a club, I will hang up my boots."

After just watching the Blackpool Man City game, Charlie Adam would be excellent next to NRC.

He offers so much more than Petrov and would not be too expensive nor have high wage demands.
I don't think anyone could get him in January, but in the summer definatley possible.

My first thought was just that. My second is the worry that he could be another Sidwell that plays well as a big fish in a small pond but can't impose when he isn't the lynchpin.
