Gerard Houllier wants Swiss goalkeeper David Zibung as he gets ready to overhaul his Aston Villa squad in January.

The Villa manager has been told he has money to spend when the transfer window opens and he is intent on stamping his authority on his new squad.

And with current first choice goalkeeper Brad Friedel nearing the end of his career, Houllier is planning on finding a replacement with Lucerne goalkeeper Zibung on his list of targets.

The 26-year-old is also wanted by Italian sides Cagliari and Chievo, but Houllier is confident the offer of Premier League football will persuade Zibung to choose a move to England.

And with Zibung's club Lucerne in financial difficulty, Houllier believes a bid of around £1m would force them into considering letting the goalkeeper move in January.

bloody hell I fell foul of my old man back in 85-86 for calling Club Call. Also, used to call some other line on Monday mornings to find out NFL scores. Not a good period of my life I can tell you. Still, good to see there are lots of other mugs out there despite the fact that the internet should have made such services obsolete.
