£8m for Carrick, or bid £10/12m for Henderson?

I think Henderson would be Carrick's replacement.

Gibbo, would have to disagree there.  Twice the player Petrov is?  Not for me.

Maybe to strong a term, but a major improvement, carrick chips in with the odd goal and has a superb pass.

But it all means nothing because he has said he doesn't want to leave.

Carrick is a gutless wonder, He's just the opposite of what we need.

Gutless wonder? Cor, haven't heard that phrase since If You Tolerate This Then Your Kiddies Will Be Next.

Pros and Cons for Carrick.

Pro

He has a winning mentality.
Good passer of the ball so similar to Barry in this respect. Played the holding role very well at Spurs.

Cons

Nearly 30 so not much younger than Petrov.
Sometimes dosen't impose himself enough on games.
10m so we wouldn't be getting much money back on him.

Not sure really, would he be hugely motivated or depressed he's been kicked out of Manure?

I'd be interested to see the route Houllier goes down regarding transfers. If like our precious manager he goes down the buy british route then I'd expect the likes of Henderson, Dorrans and Shawcross to be targeted. But that's 25m for that lot with no guarentee that will get you to top 4.

More likely the foreign route. Let's hope GH chooses more wisely than his last 18 months at Liverpool!

I'd prefer a match fit Hargreaves.
He's 29 and I think he's slated for an early retirement.

Carrick:

Pros.
- He can pass a ball.

Cons.
- Rarely scores (less than 1 in 10)
- Never runs with the ball.
- Never runs to get into scoring positions.
- Not a tackler.
- Passes the ball whether he's marked or not. Doesnt want to control a game, just get rid of the ball. Hence gutless.
- Approaching his last contract.
- Gormless.
- Overhyped (Spurs couldn't believe their luck I bet) and therefore way more expensive than he should be, no doubt.
- A waste of money and no resale value.

Hmmmm... I think we should pass on this one.
We cant afford to hide anybody and that's what Carrick does best.

My utd supporting mate can't stand Carrick, even if they've won impressively he still saves a bit of stick for him

I don't know a Utd fan who rates Carrick. The phrase I hear most of all is "He's not a Utd player!"  He was overhyped at West Ham when he was young and promising. Did well at Spurs where the style of play suited him.

With Downing in our team, do we really need another fanny? Carrick is vastly overrated to be honest. I'm sure there are plenty of midfielders out there who can pass a ball but also have a few more tricks up their sleeve as well. He doesn't.

Sounds like he'd be perfect for us then.

Carrick is possibly amongst the most over-rated footabllers in the Prem today. I don't think i've ever seen him have a great game for Utd. They were truely robbed when they paid £17m for him. We'd be better off buying Barry back.

I don't think GH will spend that much on Carrick as he probably will look for one with French/African player for this midfielder role. Gary and Gordon can tell Gerald he is not what we need. Our coaching staff is the 3 G :)

Carrick would be an upgrade on Stan, is far, far better than Sidwell so from that point of view would increase our options.

He's as good a passer as anyone in the league but he'd need an athletic DM alongside him to do the donkey work, either NRC or better.
I disagree. There are very few players I would want in our midfield less than Carrick.

Yep. I agree. Never, ever liked Carrick at all.

I don't know what he does. I'd rather have Jenas and that is saying something.

Err question.  Did we replace Ian Storey Moore when Houllier came in?
Or is this within Houllier's skill set after his work with the French FA.

Whoever the guy is may give us a clue to what or where our market will be.
