He's 24 actually, Edu, and will turn 25 this year. For me, I just don't think he has it in him technically, his reaction speed is nowhere near up to it. He gets away with it to some extent in international football and certainly in the SPL, but in the Premiership he'd be ruthlessly exposed. Terrible injury record as well.

If he were younger it might be worth it. I think he's past the key age of about 18-22 now, and players who develop after that really are late bloomers (Deco, Barry etc).

I wonder if someone like Esteban Granero at Real or Blaise Matuidi at St Etienne might be the answer. Different sorts of players who would complete our midfield in different ways, though.

Blues had one of the best defences last year, it cost a fraction of ours.

Our current pool of defenders cost around £44 million, I don't think that's particularly good value for money.

Yet is that anymore than you'd expect to have to pay for one of the best defenses in the PL, which is what we had last season?

Possibly, but you coudl take out the rarely used Curtis Davies and Habib Beye, and have a defence that cost, what, 12 million pounds less and was still almost as strong.

He got two gems in Collins and Dunne, at decent prices (although I'm a touch concerned about Dunne this year), but he'd spent the best part of 20m pounds on two other centre halves the season before, so I wouldn't suggest it was particularly sensible spending.

Luke Young is plenty good enough for this club.

He was last year and he still is.

There are many more positions that would take priority over RB if we were looking to upgrade.

There also have the record of fewest goals scored ever by a team finishing top 10.

Watching the Europa Highlights earlier, Beskitas had a decent looking Slovakian player called Fillip Holosko. Winger/striker and he's got 33 in 92 games for Beskitas.

Can't really blame their defence for not scoring, not really their job.

You can when their whole team is set out to play 9 behind the ball. Their GD was -9. They scored on average exactly one goal per game and let in 8 more goals then our Defence. They also had arguably the best GK around on loan last season and even though their "defence" is supposedly so good he still was MotM most games.

And that is the reason why they'll really struggle this season.

Hart is a great keeper. Foster isn't a patch on him.

Do actually agree with you. But it is nice to think for the first time for ages that we might sign a young up and coming european talent ......
