If Carew got agreement to join Club X in Country X we should contact them and tell them they can have him now for £100,000.

Why? Because the prolific Heskey has scored two in two?

Yes, erm... no thanks. He's been our leading scorer for the last few years.
If he's decided its time for him to go I can live with that but not giving him away.

Like most new managers Houllier will want his own players in so look for players to be sold that might suprise.

I think the position Petrov plays in is key to how a side plays.  As such, his first signing being there would probably accelerate Houllier's agenda of transforming us to what he wants us to be.  So maybe that will count against Stan?

Houllier's just announced Petrov will continue as captain so he may not be on his way out just yet.

Well, we cant buy a replacement straight away so there's no point upsetting him anyway.

Doesn't mean he won't be sold/dropped once Gezza starts getting his own signings in.  Wasn't Brian Robson captain of Man U for a while without being a first team regular?

Im liking what G-Hou is saying

When theres 3 minutes to play, you dont just sit there and try to withstand the pressure. If you want to win, you need to take risks.to take risks , you need to be fit physically, mentally and be prepared.I dont want teams that bottle out...

I like it.....

It also suggests that Houllier thinks he's good enough to start the majority of games and he's right. The role he plays is rarely eye catching but he's constantly involved and hardly ever gives the ball away.

Petrov is in the side at least until Hotlips can buy someone better to hold the midfield together. He may be able to do that in January but realistically it will happen in the summer.
We don't have anyone else capable of playing the Petrov role.

Not entirely sure I agree with that.  NRC can do everything Petrov does defensively, so if partnered with Ireland he could be the one that starts the passing moves off.  So what he does could be covered by two players, but both will do the respective parts of his job better.

Worth trying anyway, IMO.

NRC and Ireland might work occasionally. At home perhaps.
Petrov and Ireland certainly wouldn't.

The better sides usually have a hard man in midfield Reo suits that role better, Petrov has the better skills. I am confiedent that Houllier will see our deficiences more readily than the recent departed.

As ever, the problem isn't spotting the deficiencies, it's fixing them.  If you're on about a player that combines NRC's and Petrov's best qualities, then I think Chelsea might let Essien go for £50m or so.

We have reached the level where players to improve us are hard to find and even harder to recruit.  So hopefully Gezza's greater knowledge and experience in foreign markets will make that easier for us.  But the players we will need will most likely also be sought by CL clubs, so let's not think he can waive a magic wand and fix everything MON couldn't.

Like playing a central defender at right back for most of his reign.

Ah, that old chestnut!

Yes, Martin preferred Cuellar at RB over Young last season.  No, I didn't agree with it.  Yes, we still had a very good defence despite it.

Give it time - I'm sure Houllier will be doing things you don't like either before too long!
