gago is the type of player we should be in for... him in for petrov, is a mouthwatering prospect...

not too keen on 'dribbling cissy' though... his bones are made of balsa wood...

Ferguson was watching De Gea last week, which is why he wasn't at the Scunthorpe game.  One of the best young keepers in Europe, he was amazing against Barca last weekend - they would have had 7 or 8 were it not for him.

They said he wasn't at Scunthorpe as he was scouting Valencia, who they play in the CL this week!

He could do both as Valencia was playing against De Gea's Athletico Madrid.

We often see stories get circulated after a manager is at another game, normally they're after this player or that, which never mention his side is playing one of the teams soon.

I'd say he was scouting his opposition and not any player!

Argentinian.

Ta, they dont tend to settle well over here do they, generally.

Not really (Tevez is doing alright) but he's still not crap.

I dunno maybe the word "crap" is slightly unfair but I've seen Gago play plenty of times and he's never really impressed me. The alleged fee of £10 million also seems very expensive.

Seems both physically and mentally weak and prone to errors, I really don't think he would be able to cope with the physicality of this league at all. He often got bullied out of games in La Liga, and I'd expect that most of the teams in this division would murder him. He does has a good range of passing if given the time and space but he's not particularly quick either, and I don't think he'd be much of an improvement on Petrov. We'd probably have to play with an extra midfielder in order to accommodate him.

I don't think that Gago would be much cop either.

Custom-designed for a slower-paced league.

I've never rated Gago. Never mind the slower paced league, he just not very good.

Gago is the typical next big thing to come out of Argentina that goes over to Spain for big money after impressing in only a handful of games for his club and then struggles to find his feet and impose himself in the same manner that he did before his move. File in the same folder as Saviola and Aimar to name but two.

Edit. To be fair Saviola still found the net he just didn't get much game time.

I always liked Aimar, I thought he was a cracking player, if not the quickest.

He was good but not as good as he was made out to be when he was at River Plate, he struggled at Valencia but by all accounts has found some form at Benfica.

I think a lot of Argentinian players struggle with the burden of being dubbed 'the next Maradona'.

Gago is younger than I thought (For some reason I thought he was in his thirties) so don't think he's a bad shout.

What are Moutinho and Veloso up to these days?

Playing for Porto and Genoa respectively after transferring in the summer for about 10m each.

Shame. Both of them are good players who could have helped us with our problems in midfield.

Maybe. Something doesn't quite sit right for me with either though.

Portugal decided that Pedro Mendes was a better bet for their position for the World Cup. I'm sure I could be wrong (and I await Mark Kelly to tell me so) but I just get the feeling that they were both young Portuguese players coming through when young Portuguese players were very à la mode.

Very, very harsh. Was pivitol when they won La Liga under Benitez.

How tall is Cago?  Is he a 'physical player' aswell as being the 'deep lying playmaker' I've heard him described as?

I'm not saying players have to be big and strong, but I do think we need a presence of that kind in our midfield right now.
