Dont sweat it mate. I got a bit of shit for suggesting a year or two ago that we should buy Andy Carroll and Tom Huddlestone. I think most would say they'd be good players here now.

Carroll still has an awful lot to prove.

The only thing stopping him from being one of the most effective strikers in the league will be his mentality or attitude. He has everything else.

Or defenders working him out.

I agree with Paulie.

Pretty hard to 'work out' when you're 6' 4", strong as an ox with an eye for goal. We'll see though.
Sometimes, players can't be worked out or at least have an answer. He may or may not be one of those. I reckon if he doesnt push his self destruct button, he will be.

Anyway, it was worth a punt then but he'd cost too much now to make the gamble worth it.

Carroll doesn't look like a footballer, but seems to put his chances away.

He might end up like Darren Bent, someone who isn't probably the best footballer but finds the net.

I remember saying a while ago (might not have been here) that we should have signed Johnson and not Downing. I got shot down, someone even said that he's a bag of shite as they'd seen him play for the Under 21's.

That could have been me, I didn't rate him at all when he was at Boro and thought Downing was a far superior player, then again I didn't rate Dwight Yorke as a young player either.

I'm undecided about Carroll, but in terms of looking like a footballer, neither does Crouch but he's carved out an impressive career. As long as they find the net I don't care what they look like. I don't need my forwards running around like nutters. I need them to be clinical when called upon.

Carroll is your typical meat and potatoes old school CF - save for the occasional crap haircut.

Was quite impressed with him in the Championship.

It's a world apart doing well there and in the Prem though. Some pretty ordinary forwards have looked good in that league, Chopra, Ebanks Blake, Healy to name but a few.

But if he scores around 15 goals this season, menaces Prem defenders the same way he did Championship ones and Newcastle struggle, I'd definitely take a punt.

I'd go for Tarrabt in January. That kid is class.

Undoubtedly talented but he strikes me as one of those players that needs the whole team to be built around him.  Loads of tricks but is unlikely to track back resulting in other midfielders needing to do his work.

It's next season that will be the making/breaking of him.

Marcus Stewart, Dave Kitson, Michael Ricketts are just 3 examples of players who scored goals for fun in their first full season in the Prem, and then faded to nothing.

Carroll does look like a footballer.

A footballer who lives in a caravan.

   My tips for the top.

   Coleman at Everton
   Walker from Spuds
C/H at Blackburn....don't know his name.
   Henderson from Sland.

Would like us to be ging for the Hendersons/Colemans of this world. The young LB who played for Nooocastle against Chelsk looked worth a look at as well.

We can't /should'nt be going for the Owens of this world, but the next Ashley Youngs

Thought Coleman was very good indeed for Blackpool when out on loan last year. Really caught the eye...

Coleman can't defend.

Very good going forward, suppose it'll come in time but he looks a liability at the moment. Modern fullback though.

Walker at Spurs is nothing special I don't think, Naughton is the better of the two.

Henderson looks class though, he's one we should definitely be keeping an eye on... Along with Tarrabt at QPR.

Kelly at Liverpool looks classy but obviously we ain't got much chance of getting him.

I'd like Carroll. Every time he got the ball against us it looked like something was going to happen. Let's start taking chances like on youngsters - like Spurs do.
