From various reports, I've heard that Lucas is a world beater in training and when he is with the national team. Apparantly he gets really nervous before games and doesn't play to his natural ability.

Andy Partridge of XTC used to get such stage fright that the band basically had to break up because they couldn't play live. Entertainment's kind of the wrong business for Andy and Lucas if it's going to cause that much of an effect.

Lucas definitely doesn't offer much entertainment, I give you that.

Outside of people pointing and laughing, obv.  And that's just his teammates.

Monty, that's a shocker. Lucas is absolute bollocks.

what he said. You've made some solid contributions of late Monty. That ain't one of them. Retract that quick and blame on drink or pot or something.

Well Sneijder is pissed off at Inter.  They won't give him a super duper new contract after he's been there a whole year. So if we could stump up about £20 mill and £120k a week, plus a 7 figured signing on fee our midfield problems will be sorted.

I can see Montys point. The move to Liverpool was off the back of being Brazilian player of the year for Gremio. He reminds me very much of Petrov to be honest. There is a very good player in there somewhere, I would suggest that its not the position he plays thats the problem, more the pace of the game here.

Someone told me once that Lucas is one of only two Brazilians to have won Player of the Year in the Brazilian League more than once. The other being Pele.

Call it a left-fielder. I do think that people forget that he's young and basically out of position. I don't suppose anyone saw him playing for Brazil against the USA but he was actually very good, really tidy in possession, well-timed runs forward and solid positional play. You don't get selected consistently by Brazil if you don't have something about you. I suspect he's one of those players who'll do well outside of England, though.

There's a player in there somewhere, and I'm sticking by this. Even though I've got 2-3 bullets in my head.

Dont sweat it mate. I got a bit of shit for suggesting a year or two ago that we should buy Andy Carroll and Tom Huddlestone. I think most would say they'd be good players here now.

Carroll still has an awful lot to prove.

But without doubt a very good prospect. I don't mind saying that I was one of those giving Maz a bit of stick for it, but he was right in the end, Carroll has the the range of abilities to make it.

The only thing stopping him from being one of the most effective strikers in the league will be his mentality or attitude. He has everything else.

I remember saying a while ago (might not have been here) that we should have signed Johnson and not Downing. I got shot down, someone even said that he's a bag of shite as they'd seen him play for the Under 21's.

We can't all get it right :)
