Charlie Adam is a very good player, and in the game against Man City recently he certainly didn't look out of place or overawed. I don't agree that it will stunt the growth of player like Bannan. In fact, we need squad depth, and having two players like that in our squad wouldn't be a bad thing at all. We need real competition, and we need to make full use of rotation. I think Bannan's growth might have been affected under MOn as he was less apt to rotate, but I don't think that would be the case under GH.

Sounds too short, doesn't it? But then again, August 2009 was a different time altogether for Blackpool... who'd have thought a year later they'd have been in the PL? Maybe a two year deal to sign a player from Glasgow Rangers was all they could afford, or were prepared, to offer?

It would make sense from his perspective, If he thought he was going places

To me Charlie Adam is a bit like Jimmy Bullard. A very effective top flight player that will never be good enough to be considered great, but will do a solid job for whatever club he is at. A lot of people on here wanted Bullard at his peak, and I think Adam could do a similar job for us.

The side looks to be getting some balance to it.

Bridge and Walker are fullbacks who are very forward thinking and can affect the attack.

Makoun and Adam are both players who are capable of doing both sides of the game, a right footer and a left footer too.

I'm not a big Bridge fan but he's better than Warnock and atleast we'll have the position free in the Summer to get a long term target.

I'd be happy with all of those.

Adam on 25k or Sidwell on 50k? Walker on 15k or Beye on 40k? I bet Makoun wouldn't be on Petrov's wages either... Sounds good to me.

As for Barton, I wouldn't want him here but there is no doubting his quality. He'd be an England player if he wasn't such a ******. If he were to be here we'd grow to love him as well, the Geordies certainly do.

If we were not in the bottom three I'd have concerns about the signing of Adam limiting the development of Bannan, stunting his metaphorical growth if you will. Needs must.

Did you think the same about Coker, Sidwell, et al doing that to Osborne? If Bannan is good enough and he isn't yet, he'd be playing regardless of who is bought.

If we are in for Barton its lunacy, the team is full of trouble makers, and Ireland and Barton in the same midfield, same team, same squad, same club is utter shit.

I like Adam but would he have the same freedom to play at Villa as he currently does at Blackpool, he's another left footer as well.

Can't remember how long ago but Barton totally ran the show for Man City at Villa a few years ago, if you assume all footballers are overpaid, arrogant wankers perhaps signing Barton isn't so bad.

The thought of Wayne Bridge in a Villa shirt is worse than Joey Barton signing, where are all these Johnny Foreigner types we thought we'd be signing ?

I think his absence made NRC a better player in the mind than on the pitch. I am guilty of this with him. He is in no way good enough, and a midfield pair of Adam and Makoun is much more enticing than Reo Coker and Petrov.

Still need a forward though.
[/quot

Reo Coker will not take us forward. Makoun and Adam along with Bannan, G. Gardner and Delph will. ........Only forward really mentioned is Mbokani and he even looks crap in the promotion you tube video !!!

Houllier uses the squad more. There'd be room for the pair of them. Both can play as a left midfielder and both can operate further up the pitch.

Adam is the Sidwell replacement IMO.

Makoun the NRC replacement.

Bridge covering the departing Warnock until the Summer.

And hopefully we can make Walker permanent if he impresses.

No, I thought pretty quickly that Osbourne would struggle to make it. Bannan is probably good enough to play regular PL football, not sure it will be with us though.

I hope we get Barton. We need someone with a bit of bite in midfield.

Carew to Join Baggies?

The Times today:

Reading 1 West Bromwich Albion 0

West Bromwich Albion will intensify their attempts to sign John Carew, the Aston Villa striker, this week and how they could have done with him here. The Norway international scored a hat-trick inside a half to knock Reading out of the FA Cup last season but Roberto Di Matteo's aject team could not conjure up a goal between them on Saturday.

If Barton comes then he will have my support- a class player no doubt , but I really do not think it will happen.

Barton has improved his attitude and is more mature than he used to be but he still is prone to losing it, as a player he's quality but as a person he needs to keep improving - if we do sign him he will improve the team but I do not think villa are interested in him whatever the press may say.

I'm not happy about Bentley going to Blose. He still has the ability to be a fine player.
Granted we'd struggle to find him a regular place without putting a really good player's nose out of joint but still, he could do a job in our squad and he could do well for them.

Adam is the Sidwell replacement IMO.

Don't think we need another ball boy.
I think Adams is like a fresher Petrov, can keep the play ticking over, has an eye for a pass, can run for more than an hour.
