You got to be in it to win it.

Hello General; just popped into say i'm really pleased to see on the online store that we've got official Aston Villa golf products. I'm going to order myself a Villa pom pom driver headcover and some Villa tees tommorow!

Keep up the great work General!

Hi General

What do you think to Ashley Young not signing a new contract at the moment.  Do we have another Milner situation on our hands?

Do you really think that's a fair question to ask?

Hi General K,

It has been interesting to watch the soap opera at Old Trafford this week and that player power if you like has now got totally out of control (however Fergie seems to have got his way in the end). Given the news today that Ashley Young has called a halt to contract negotiations I can only conclude he has decided he wants to leave and not sign a further contract witth he club. Given he will only have 1n year left in the summer we will have a player whose true value will be nearer 20m going for a song and a dance.

I don't want another long protracted situation like the ones we have had to suffer for the last 3 years with Barry and Milner. We know the outcome will be he will leave as we have shown we can't keep our best players anymore. So my advice is to sell him in January and get a decent price for him and put us out of our misery earlier for a change.

For the record, Ashley Young is in my opinion the best player we have had at the club since Dwight Yorke and I will be devastated when he goes. Oh and I don't blame Randy as I am sure he would have Ashley signed up yesterday if he could.

We simply cannot sell Ashley Young. First Barry, then Milner and now possibly our now best player? We must learn from our mistakes and not lose another great player, it simply cannot happen - I'd cry if we lose Ash and we'd just be considered a laughing stock if we keep doing this.

Sadly there's not a lot we can do about it, if he doesn't want to sign a new deal we would have to sell him- how sad that players call the shots and hold clubs to ransom- the wages players are on is obscene and while the country faces cuts all players seem to want is more more more.

General, did you manage to confirm that the WBA game will be a 3pm kick off?

I think it's quite simple (easy for me to say I realise), if you sell Ashley Young you need to replace with equal or better quality.  Not potential, not an unknown youngster.  A replacement.

Bottom line is that another drawn out-will-won't-he scenario will go down lie lead balloon and ruin any good vibes currently being enjoyed by most.

General,

File this this under 'Easier said than done' but why are we not signing/re-signing players with an clause of "the Club having a one year extention option".
It's something we used to do, it makes sense when we have players/agents that start seeing the additional cash-in available, indifferent of the player's best long term options.

As with all things Aston Villa, we try to do things the right way but sometimes we may need a little bit of insurance to protect us against the mercenaries.

I appreciate asking General K difficult questions is not de rigueur of late but surely its a question on many if not most Villa fans minds, Dave.

Here's another one General, question that is. How long have the Board allowed in their plans for Houllier to make an effective short term impact on results, please
Are they expecting for this to be a season of consolidation following the turncoats exit, or do they still expect to achieve some success. When you consider the rhetoric posted most of last season about the quality of the partly used squad under O'Neill and the funds expended, I'd hope so

General,

a team pretending to be the Cleveland Browns today won away to the reigning SuperBowl champions.

What's Randy done with the real Browns? ;-)

General,

My Charlie and his best mate have a top of the table under 13's match that kick's off at half past two on Sunday. Their Sunday League coach would like them to miss the blues game but as long standing season ticket holders the chances of that happening is absolutely ZERO!

Would there be any chance whatsoever of a one off parking spot in order that I could leave Villa Park ten minutes early and take them to their junior league match four miles away?

If not - he'll have to do without them ;-)

Thanks anyway and thanks for your continued good work!

General,

Any chance of delaying the kick off on Sunday by 10 minutes? I finish work at 11pm Sunday night (which will be Noon UK time) and it will take me 10 mins to run down to the pub. Doesn't have to be anything drastic, just hide all the balls or something. I'm happy to phone up Villa Park when I've got to the pub and have a beer in hand so that the game can kick off!
