Kev was a caretaker, he has done a fantastic job but no-one promised him the job full time

5 Live has just been talking about us. They have been told it will be confirmed on Thursday and their understanding is the delay is over who comes in alongside Houllier and what role Kev Mac gets. If Thomson does come will Kev be another coach or go back to his "old" job.

Apologies if alraedy posted, haven't read the last feqw pages.

Fucking Gerard fucking Houllier.

What a fucking let-down.

I'll support the team down the ground no matter who is in charge, but the appointment of him is a joke.

Let me know if you can please.

I'm happy with the appointment, think he's a good manager who'll do a good job and keep us ticking over for a while until the new man becomes available.

But my problem with it is it's a bit of a small time appointment. We've appointed someone who no one else wanted. Would Spurs have done the same if Redknapp left tomorrow?

After Jol they poached Ramos from Sevilla and then Redknapp from Pompey. Different levels of success but they got a trophy and 4th place out of 'em.

I'm willing to give Houllier a go, but is he the man to break us into the top 4? I just wish we'd shown a bit more balls and gone all out for Moyes.

I'm still hopeful a younger target (Moyes, McLaren, Billic) will be appointed when they become available.

Won shedloads at Liverpool and Lyon.

What is the problem? I'm not over the moon with it but considering the circumstances it's pretty decent.

If someone would've told you this time last year that Gerard Houllier would be Villa manager in a years time you would have laughed so much it would've hurt.

Instead, I will now be crying, not laughing.

I don't know why, but I expected/hoped for so much more.

I'd now consider us a laughing stock.

Winning the league, 3 years ago, in France seems about as tough as winning it in Scotland.

Sorry ridiculous, his record is fine and his knowledge of Europe is excellent.

I'd now consider us the same club I supported this time yesterday, last week and last month.

I wouldn't, most see it as a decent appointment if we can put up with his style of football.

He knows the league, and Lyon have gone backwards since he left despite throwing loads of money at it, so it can't have been that bad...

Even if you discount the quality of the league (comparsions to Scotlands are way off the mark IMO), you can't deny what he's won before hand.

And then you've got to take into account the position we were thrown in by MON's departure date.

Have we ever attracted a manager who has been able to boast of winning so many trophies?

No. Thought not!

Never been on it but I think it would be hard to get a better supporters website than this whatever the team, this site Is well run and everyone gets to express and debate a whole variety of issues.

It's had a few twats in the past but has been twat free in recent months. Apart from the odd ITK twat, but it's even worse on other sites for that.

The fact is if he wins a tenth of what he's won in his career he'd be considered a Villa legend.

He's coming out from a cushy and presumably well paid job in his homeland whilst semi-retired to put his reputation on the line to manage us. Give the man a chance.

Very good assessment JJ.
