It says everything about modern life that someone's ability and experience in a job can be outweighed by not fukkin liking them in a TV programme.

It's almost as absurd as disliking someone on the basis of the team they support.

I'm following SSN for any news update. Nothing so far. I'm feeling increasingly like sleeping with a prostitute or making a compensation claim, though.

No problem with Houllier and Thompson. Throw in a long-overdue overhaul of our scouting structure, headed by someone with some real clout in UEFA circles,  and I'd say that the silver lining on O'Neill's 5-days-to-go shitcloud is pretty decent.

Perhaps we might finally stop being invisible outside of England and Celtic.

I'm not sure how Houllier / Thompson meet the General's criteria of understanding the importance of the Villa job and knowing what it means to wear the claret and blue shirt. Thompson particularly has always struck me as someone who is interested in Liverpool first and everything else is a distant second, if it registers at all.

It's that psycho Bill Bailey-looking double-glazing salesman which takes the biscuit for me, it's like watching LiveTV again

We're not all that shallow Dave, it's got nothing to do with his TV rantings, it's his big conk that puts me off.

Well Thompson will be Houllier's choice not Randy or The General's but anyway, I think you are taking The General's words too literally. I don't think they wanted some massive Villa fan, just someone who understands that Villa are a huge and very historic club with ambitions to get back amongst the very best.
Houllier must have impressed in his interview that he understands this very well.

If he can bring that passion to us then I'm sure they'll do a good job

Well he said it, not me. And it appeared to be genuinely important to him. Frankly, I thought it was all a bit incidental anyway. Like others have said, if Houllier and Thompson come in and do a good job, personally I couldn't give two fucks whether their hearts are really in Liverpool or not.  Thinking about it, part of Houllier's may actually be there.

From paper talk of Toshack possibly resigning, why not go the whole hog and have a full Liverpool contingent?
GH as DOF, Toshack as Manager, Thompson as assistant
Whatever happened to Steve McMahon as a manager?  Oh, and there's always John Barnes!

Saw David Fairclough in his garden yesterday - he was on his mobile - do you think Thommo was phoning him to offer him a position at VP?   ;)

The only way Houllier could possibly succced is if he brings his own men in, like Thompson, what it means for Kevin McDonald I guess we'll soon find out.

Having Tommo there at least will mean we get cut a bit of slack from Stelling and the boys, not that that matters at all.

I quite like the thought of Thompson teaming back up Houllier.
I have always found him to be very passionate in everything he says and that can only bode well for spirit within the club.
