im really starting to come round to the idea...

having seen a few liverpool fans views over at the likes of rawk, etc, apart from the ones who dont like him for what he said about ginola (?) and benitez, most seem to have very fond memories of him, especially for progressing them in terms of league placings and trophies, and also with their training...

this season aside, as for me, it will be transitional season due to the purposeful timing of o'neill chucking his toys, if he can steady the ship, and then as i mentioned, help bring in his european scouting contacts and knoweldge and contacts at the clairefontaine academy, then that can only help us in the long term...

bad football aside, as we are used to that under o'neill, if he can get results and move us further than 6th and a cup run or two, then he will be considered a success.. and with his age and health issues, then i cant see it being a long term appointment, and if he can leaves us in a stronger position than when he arrived, like he did with liverpool (not expecting the same amount of trophies etc), but as long as he can leave us in a stronger position both on and off the pitch than when he arrived, then job done, and maybe then, we can bring in someone younger and more exciting, like a martin jol, etc...

the timing of o'neill jumping ship, really did make this hunt even harder than it would have been had he had the decency to leave at the end of last season... so for that, houllier really wont be a bad appointment...

i am not jumping for joy, however, by simply having a european scouting system, then that will improve us off the pitch instantly...

Considering who was available I think Houllier is probably the best bet as manager, but I will be irridescant with rage if he brings that big-nosed cockmeister bigot Phil Fuckin' Thompson with him.

There are rumours beginning to emerge that he's resigned from Sky.

Yikes.

I suppose it's unfair to judge him on the basis of his punditry but he always comes across as a bit of a chump. Houllier will surely want his own men who he knows he can trust but it does cast doubts on MacDonald's future role.

If houllier feels more comfortable with thommo at his side then so be it, I'm sure kmac can return to his old job and hold his head high , the main thing is that houllier has staff around him he knows work well with him.

I've said my piece on Houllier in another thread, which ended in a 'he deserve a chance' conclusion, but bring big nose with him would be a huge tick in the minus column he'd quickly need to recover from!!

Shaggy from Scooby Do?

Yeah, I'd prefer him to Phil Thompson!

If Staunton's let anywhere near my football club again I shall be requesting a personal letter of justification from The General.

As for thommo - well I hate him so I guess that as I hate fergie and wenger that shouldnt neccessarily be a bad thing.

Bloody hell, I have just put 2 and 2 together and probably come up with 7 but, if 'Sky sources' yesterday were suggesting Houllier, then were the 'sources' Thompson, given that he works there ?

I actually would support the appointment more if he bought Thompson in.  The man knows what success is about and is the type of guy to get into the players - a bit like Pat Rice at Arsenal.  He also has a bit of a sense of humour which is also needed at a club.

I really don't see what problem people have with Staunton? If he has his badges then lets try. What harm can it do? I also think Kev can be a coach as well. If Staunton can get the lads showing passion like he used to then I'll be happy

I personally hate Thompson but hey ho, We just gotta go with it now and see what happens, Be nice to see a few loan signings. Let him get his old mate Cisse.
