I've just had a text message from Sky sources saying Houllier will be manger in 2 days. Great......if correct - Can I get my money back on my ST if so???
Bit dramatic DB, the bloke has knowledge, give him a chance.

Precisely my thoughts, I think he could potentially be very good. Also it's worth noting the Board have taken their time and I'm sure Houllier's plans for the club have impressed them. His knowledge of the European market is also something we sorely lack.

Good point Paul, players from Foreign Leagues were a no-no under bicycle face, we're missing opportunities there.

wonder what kind of contract he'll be on...can we have some kind of clause whereby if he doesn't keep us in the top ten, we can amicably part ways at the end of the season...

As a show of support for him, In true French fashion,  I shall be rude and aloof to everybody I encounter at Villa Park.

I also intend to shout out random french words, 'Perrier', 'Weetabix' stuff like that.

63, out of management for 4 years and out of English management for 8! Blatantly not a man manager- read Fowlers book (yeh, I know theres two sides to every story but sometimes you have to choose who you believe). I hope Im wrong but Im not happy, check out Jason Mcateer's quick interview on sky- doesnt want to slag him off but can't say anything positive! And maybe all those who are talking about his international transfer market knowledge need to look at his Liverpool buys because i dont think many were sold at a profit! Like I say, I hope Im wrong but.....

He should have a contract till the end of this season.

Should have and will have are two differnt things, but he doesn't need the money and hence a payoff, and we need to make sure he's the right man.

At least he will look at foreign players, and further than Celtic, that's a massive upside.

There are many players that would say the same things about MON.

His record in management is pretty dam good so can't argue there. Worth a shot i recon.

I did get a text of a Liverpool mate of mine who just said "prepare to sign some shit young French lads".

Good lord that is a bit dramatic. What part of getting an experienced manager who has won stuff does not at the very least deserve a chance to see how things go. I can think of better managers that we might have tried to temp (and of course, we might have) but I can think of several managers we have been linked with who I feel would be far worse.

I think Houllier would be a great appointment, if not for his record in the transfer market. He really did buy some absolute shit.

35 million on Hesky, Cisse and Diouf.

to be fair to GH...

Heskey was one of the hottest prospects in the prem when Liverpool got him, lots of clubs were chasing him.

Cisse was a decent buy, he was a good player and had a lot of bad luck with injuries.

Diouf looked superb at the world cup before they bought him, but he was a pony.

I'm off to buy myself a string of garlic as I type. I'm also going to grab myslef a beret and a stripey shirt, and grow a dodgy moustache. I will likely be investing in a new white flag.

It could be that we're getting Houiller as manager until we can get someone like Jol in (maybe next summer), when Houiller would move up to director of football with responsibility for the youth system and such. I'd welcome that scenario.

I don't agree with the short term approach, if the Board believe he is the right man for the job they should back him with a 3-4 year contract. I can't see any point in a short term deal at the moment.

GH may end up having another heart attack when he see's Carew missing chance after chance in front of goal.
